Long brake pedal

Hello All,

quick question for the more technically minded!!

I have a MY2012 Range Rover Vogue, which I picked up from a service yesteray but it now feels like the brake has got very long. There seems to be no firmness as you push pedal, and I am having to push the pedal a lot further to stop the car. The car does stop but the braking just seems/feels different. Part of the service was a brake fluid change and my thought is that they haven't bled the brakes properly. Would this be the correct assumption or could it point to something else - before I raise merry hell with the dealer.

thanks in advance

Yep - what a pain and very disconcerting the dealer doesn't road test or check this sort of thing prior to returning the car.

Thanks for confirming thoughts

Not 100% sure but I think the ABS block has to be purged with test book or similar when you change the brake fluid . 2008 MY Supercharged

Can i suggest you DONT return the car to the dealer. Rather ring the dealer and insist the car is collected on a recovery truck... As I'm sure i do not need to explain the safety implications of driving your car with either air in the brakes or worse still, a leak! (sometimes a leak means air gets in rather than fluid leaks out)

Let alone the legal implications if someone was to have an accident (now you have published on an open forum your concerns sir)

Bow down Thumbs Up

Unfortunately I will have to drive it, they are only 6 miles or so from where I work, it was the 50 mile drive in this morning that was fun!! Need to get car sorted today and am sure that if I try to demand a trailer it will not be resolved till next week - i will take path of least resisitance (no pun intended!)

Just as an update, went back to garage and brake lines were bled, 45 mins, and now are back to normal.

Had a pretty heated conversation with service manager who was apologetic but left feeling pretty unimpressed.

I have a modicum of car knowledge, and wonder how many are driving around in ignorant bliss that they have a problem with brakes. I would probably be less bothered if it was anything else, but second to steering, brakes are the most important function on the car. The problem with air in the lines is that the braking will get worse the harder they are used and shudder to think about the consequences of my family or anyone else's family driving around with the problem. Just got the feeling the mechanics have no real idea or just couldn't give a $€%#.

Moan over, thanks for the help

Usually do everything on all my cars myself. But then my background is very auto-centric: started as mechanic trainee at the age of 16 summers / after school and put myself through the university by turning spanners (all before becoming part of a rapidly growing diagnostic equipment co. Razz ). And I am never satisfied with the work done on my cars by others.

Just had my convictions substantiated too. Had no time as I was traveling, so I took my TD6 to a garage for an injector change 6 weeks ago and the garage (highly recommended, good rep) dropped carbon deposits in a cyl during the change - bending valves. So the head had to come off. To be fair, the TD6 has 360kKMs, but it has always run like a charm and been extremely reliable (my TD6 was prob the most reliable car I have ever owned, believe it or not). And now the motor has had to come apart for no reason... Evil or Very Mad And, although several injection systems specialist have said that this sort of thing is possible in a common rail diesel motor, I can't help thinking I would've been that extra smudge more careful and gotten the deposit with my shop vac and a hose taped on the end.

My TDV8 also needs work: the EGR valves need replacing. Guess who's doing that... Yawn
