@Steve, that's not necessarily true.

If you don't have a phone fitted in the cradle and you press the 'Phone' Button on the head unit, you just get a grey screen with a message saying 'Phone Not Fitted'.
Place a mobile phone in the cradle and it springs to life, I know that first hand.

Same thing will happen if no TV has been fitted

If tony's car had a satnav DVD player fitted at the factory and it had been removed and the fibre optic cable bypassed, then what would happen if you pressed the 'SatNav' button on the headunit?

As long as the cables - Power connector, fibre optic cables and antenna cable, are fitted then getting a satnav installed shouldn't be a problem.

The sole reason for getting the Touchscreen upgrade on the HSE models was to fit the satnav, as you need a screento program postcodes, etc., and to see the route and directions.

@tony66, as I said in my earlier post, the only way to be certain what exactly was factory fitted is to get the 'build sheet' info. Thumbs Up

Hi Dt,
No. If the Satnav was fitted and activated then pressing the "Street Navigation" button on the head unit without a nav computer connected would lead to an error message. "No nav fitted" means not activated in the CCF. And, since no one is going to remove a nav computer and go through the trouble of having the nav removed from the CCF, this means no nav ex-factory and no connectors in the loom for a nav computer.
The phone is a different story because it is removable. I am not certain with the TV module on the touch-screen models - have not played with this yet - but I can even imagine that this is an item that could be added w/o a CCF change as Land Rover specifically wanted to allow the possibility for a retrofit.
With the nav, I believe that if you did not pay up when you ordered a RR, LR wanted to make sure that you could not simply retrofit one. Hence the different loom and the CCF. I had a hard time believing that LR would install a giant touch screen with radio functions only - the first time I heard about this was in the "ultimate infotainment upgrade" thread. But we have seen this more than once since. And the retrofit I am doing is on my personal TDV8 that came from the factory w/o a nav. OK? Razz

Hi Tony,
Unless Snap-On has made huge changes to the SW, the Solus will not be able to make CCF changes. AFAIK, the only diagnostic systems capable of making these changes are: OEM IDS/SDD, Autologic, BBS Faultmate, and our IIDTool. And with the Autologic, while the system is capable of making the change, I am not sure if the Nav equipped/not-equipped option is a part of the system.
The Solus offers functions required in a garage for servicing vehicles. For LR, this is roughly equivalent to the functionality of a Hawkeye Pro, Lynx Pro, or what we offer as standard diagnostic functions (VIN lock free) in a private-user IIDTool BT (except that we don't have the P38 and D2 - yet).

Hi Steve,
I understand entirely what you've said Bow down , and can well believe that LR would 'cut off their noses' by putting a different loom (at extra expense to LR) in to stop people retrofitting a satnav unit, after all there's nothing new there as far as LR is concerned Shocked . That's why I said for tony to get a build sheet for his motor, it's the only way to know exactly what is and isn't fitted. That's the only way to be sure. Thumbs Up

My assumption was that if a satnav had been factory fitted and had got knackered, the previous owner may have been baulked by LR wanting an arm and a leg to replace it (think I've heard silly money mentioned for a genuine new LR nav DVD unit), so may have just told an LR dealer to bin the nav system, resulting in the DVD unit and TMC module (if fitted) being removed from the vehicle and obviously the LR dealer altering the CCF to 'shut down' the satnav on the touchscreen. The cabling and connectors would have still been there, thus me asking for photos of the wiring.

All clear - the only thing being most main dealers' most skilled technicians have no idea they can turn the nav on and off in the CCF. And even if they do, finding it in IDS... Laughing

Yes, it would be great for Tony if he had the loom, but the plugs were there they'd be pretty obvious. Adding the plugs should not be much of an issue. I've had a look at the wiring diags - mainly +, gnd, CAN, and a couple of wires to the head unit. Nothing exotic. Running the wires to the head unit is not too much of a job either. I have to continue trying to source the connectors from a breaker. I'd like as much loom as poss with the connectors - and then just clipped off. I actually found the nav in the US (eBay) at a very good price but the breaker wanted too much for the connectors.

@steve, know just what you're saying about main dealers and their skilled Rolling Eyes technicians. But knowing from experience, it is still a possibility and needed to be checked.

After all, some main dealer has disabled the TMC module and the bluetooth system in the CCF on my FF, so it is possible...

I was a bit surprised by tony's photo of part of the wiring he's pulled out of the electronics bay, as having looked at the looms in my FF Vogue beforehand, there's no free wiring to be seen. That and the additional connectors in his hand, in itself suggested thet there was something not quite right!

As an aside, I'm getting Santa to bring me a BT IID Tool for Xmas (well hopefully SWMBO is!), so I can re-enable those functions and do a few other diagnostics. Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear that tony, frustrating Big Cry . It seems strange that LR (under Ford ownership) would put touchscreens into all the RR models and not have an MID style unit for the vehicles without satnav, but then still take time (and money) to have different wiring looms for the infotainment setups, especially as the HSE still has the Harmon Kardon system installed. Yet they have also left in the fibre optic cable connection to enable an upgrade to install the TV modules! Rolling Eyes

@steve, I bow to your superior knowledge sir Bow down

Keep us updated as to the easier way to wire in the satnav, for tony and the other FF owners who are in the unfortunate predicament of not having satnav installed. It might even be worthwhile developing/marketing a connection kit for them, to complement the excellent IID Tool Thumbs Up
