V8 Petrol FBH

Hi all.
I know, another FBH question......but, I recently purchased a gassed V8 2003MY Vogue that has FBH and whilst playing with the system this evening, I came to the conclusion that it doesn't work, probably due to a failure to ignite and a strong smell of petrol (with plenty in the tank)
My question is, does anyone know if it's the same Webasto system as on the Td6's and does it work the same (is it a glow system or spark ignitor)? From what I gather, there aren't many V8's with FBH about. I've read numerous posts and figure that if I plugged in, it would be the common problem of resistor values and probably a flame sense failure, but can't seem to find any other info for the petrol option.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

This probably won't be much help but I have just had mine repaired at the stealers - the fault showed up as flame out the solution was new pump but more importantly one of the feed pipes from the pump was blocked. Don't think this helps you much as it sounds like you are getting plenty of fuel through.
Sure someone will be along with an answer
Have you read the fault codes?

im sure its only the fuel pump delivery rate that is different between petrol and derv systems(seen it somewhere but may be wrong)
i have a LPG car with a derv webasto and a little derv tank fitted under the sill and mine runs on both

every 12 months (before the cold weather sets in) i run mine on petrol for a couple of 30min cycles, it seems to run hotter and blows the built up carbon out of it

if all fails get in touch with french mike on the ZF forums

best of luck they can be a pain

hope this helps

Rpbbo, I'm sorry but i know little about these systems sir... However, my immediate concern whilst reading your thread is this...

I have FHB on my two latest FFRR's (both diesels) when i put them in the workshop after its been cold outside the FBH cuts in briefly and irritatingly smokes out my workshop when i turn the ignition off, after only one minute of engine running! Whilst the system runs on and then shuts down...

If you have a strong smell of petrol when yours tries to run! And the weather gets cold enough to "auto start" the system to assist you with engine heating when the outside temperature falls below a set point...

Are you not in imminent danger of your car catching fire sir? The smell of petrol would ring MASSIVE ALARM BELLS as to weather the system will ignite the fumes or just a rouge fag butt...

Thanks for the response.
Yes, the smell of fuel was slightly unnerving, hence the query. I'm assuming that I didn't leave it long enough to go through a full cycle and auto shutdown/lockout but will try again. The clicking sounds like a piezo igniter with the frequency progressively increasing but now understand that it's the pump. Will get into it later.

yes the smell of petrol is quite UN-nerving at times but the pumps in these things are metered and put a tiny amount of fuel into the heater,if they dont ignite properly the fan blows the fuel vapor out ready for the next go.
that is probably what you can smell( unless of course you have a leek)

yes it wont ignite but yes its doing the safety thing afterwards and clearing the fuel out

@ ctc

the FBH is used as a back up for the useless heater in the derv models when its cold, but this is not the case for petrol cars its just AUX/timed heater to de-frost/warm it up before you get in, so it does not come on unless you tell it to

Very Happy Very Happy
Well I wasn't expecting that but I just tried it again and it works a treat!! I did notice what smelled like diesel fumes at first and wondering if I have the same setup as ironhorse. Makes quite an impressive noise when it gets going!
Cheers.
