Thank you ebajema, I will follow up on those ideas. Not giving up so easily.

KurtVerbose, I'm not a cockpit attendant, more like a jack of all trades. But have to admit, all things technical is close at heart.

As with any new to me new vehicle, I want to ensure its in good condition from a maintenance and service perspective. All my LR's are also too precious to me for letting someone else have his or her dirty hands touch them. Therefore I'm commited to do all maintenance and repair works myself. Using a good quality parts, needless to say blue boxes are banned.

Starting with the deployable side steps.

What a sh11ty concept. I originally shut them off, but then Mrs complained the next day already. Where's the steps! So I was out and change the configuration to activate them again.

And since they must come off before going on the hoist, I had to service the fixing points.

And as usual, LR don't know different metals shouldn't be mixed... alloy, mild steel and stainless in a lovely mix.
Anyway, new stainless bolts goes on.

If you can get Shell Rhodina II, it is a good idea to coat the threads and contact surfaces with it. It prevents corrossion for a LOOOOOONG time. It is designed for offshore use and is brilliant. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I just treated the screws with PTFE spray, this will leave a dry lubrication, which should last until I take them of next time. The advantage with something that dries is it will not attract dirt to build up on them.

So time to get EDF up onto the lift for the first time.

Always a bit exiting to go service your purchase the first time. What's the real condition of things.

Front brakes needs doing. Both pads and discs are worn enough for me to replace them.

Worn front disc.

See if you can have a good look at the suspension air bags. They start cracking in the "fold over". Just try to extend the suspension to offroad height to expose the fold over as much as possible. On my 2006 you couldn't see a thing until we took them of and blew they up completely and it showed a LOT of cracks.

Discs indeed need replacing.

Good that you have the equipment to do it Smile (he said with a big tone of jealousy in his voice Evil or Very Mad ) MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

The DVD player may need an update. I recently got a new Sony BD player. BDs were fine but it wouldn't play DVDs. I was just ready to pack it up and take it back when I noticed it wanted to run an update. After update, suddenly everything plays fine. Thumbs Up
Yes, region coding may be an issue. I know our DVD players can't handle European 50fps material even if region free. Evil or Very Mad

Agree with ebajema, like the garage! Thumbs Up

Found the reason for this message.

A nail or screw have penetrated the tread.

Which gave me a reason to bring out the spare, for the first time in EDF's life.

Didn't touch the EPB at this time, all seems fine so I leave it until it's time to change rear pads.

After the brakes its time to go on with engine oil. Starting with removing the under shield. A bit cheap this is plastic while on D3 it's a sturdy metal plate. But this has better sound proofing.

Here we can see both sump oil plugs, don't know if its custom to empty from both or just the forward one.

The rear plug is in a really awkward position, right above a cross member.

Here on it's way out. Just about a bit less than a litre comes out here.

And then the forward one. Also not in the best position. But much better for access.

Wonder if I can put a Femco plug on here? Would make it easier for the future changes.

I have these for both gearbox and sump on my Discovery 2's http://www.drainplug.co.uk/index.html

The card board trick works as well, just a bit messy.

Back on with two new OEM plugs.

The workshop belongs to a friend of mine, also a LR addict. The two of us work on our own and others LR's as much (or little) time allows. It's a great asset to have. Thumbs Up

Replacing the engine oil filter.

And filling engine oil. Using Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A5

Feels good to get rid of that black oil. I normally change oil on all my landys when the oil start to get darker. Max 10,000 kms.
