TDV8 3.6 L322 First Time Buyer Query

So Ive wanted an L322 for a long time and went to see a lovely 2007 Vogue SE TDV8 yesterday. Drives nicely and Ive done a lot of the basic checks but I have a few concerns I need to ask about.

1) when looking in the engine bay , the airbox could be rattled around fairly freely and the inlet port on it just kind of when into a hole on the front wing, wasnt connected to anything (no rubber grommits etc..) is this normal ?

2) The battery, there were two threaded rods up in front of the battery but it doesnt seem to be physically held in by anything , is this normal ?

3) The PDC Sensors, salesman threw on the PDC while I was leaving the forecourt which they seemed to work fine going forward, in reverse they seemed to be over sensitive and even when i put the car in park after parking the beep kept going solid , is this normal ?

4) reversing camera was a bit grainy , not overly but not something im used to. Also the venture cam was dead, is replacing the batteries in this expensive ?

5) when i clicked phone the car said 'no phone' on the screen , supposedly has bluetooth and has the black module above the navigation computer in the boot, is this normal as it just wasnt paired or ?

6) there was a bit of dirt / carbon buildup at the top of the radiator on the right hand side where the intercooler hose was , would this be common enough or indicative of something about to go bang ?

more general queries :

Ive read the buying guide and things to look out for and im mostly happy, but is there anything specific to the 2007 MY / Vogue SE / TDV8 to watch out for that may not be listed ?

are the front / rear diffs and gearbox / transfer case still a sore spot on these ? would getting the dealer to do a fluid change help me much ?

the car only has 60k miles on it. Anything coming up soon I could negotiate a preventative fix for ?

Also in terms of upgrades to things it doesnt have ha :
the discovery comes with a coolbox in the front armrest , is this available for the l322, if so what am I talking cost wise for parts ?

and the car doesnt have an ipod kit. I would like a full control ipod kid similar to the intravee I have in my e38 7 series , full artist search support and be able to use the steering wheel controls. Preferably one confirmed to work with an iphone 5 even through an adapter. Leaving cost out of it , what are the two best options for this ?

That's a fair list of questions there, have a search on here and most of the answers will be out there.

In terms of a few if the items on there

Battery is clamped at the bottom by a bracket held down by the threaded rods - normal
Reversing camera - is a bit grainy
Phone wil say not fitted if not paired. Vse will have bluetooth
Carbon build up could be a leaking top intercooler hose, cheap easy fix, can do in 2 mins with a screwdriver.

There aren't many options for iPod intergration and screen control. Pretty much the only option is the lr kit, not cheap doubt you would get much change out of £500 if not more.

Things whch go at about 60k:

Alternator - has it been changed
Battery - is it the original
Top inter cooler hoses - cheap and easy
Gearbox oil service - recommended
Suspension bushes - might need looking at
Front and rear diff oils - worth doing
Check the rear wheel arches for rust

Check the fuel burning heater fob is present and it is working

There is a really good buying guide in the wiki so have a look at that Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That's a big list...

Out of that, iPod kit..I bought genuine LR, installed mself and did it for £300 ish, from a site sponsor. It's pants though, I had the Audi system previously and it would leave the LR stuff standing....but it's usable, as tracklists.

BT...my samsung has to be connected each time, but I am not a fan of any kind of phoning while driving so dont bother me ! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I believe the part is about £300, but it's a dash apart job to fit it, whch is doable if you are handy with the spanners or probably at least 150 at a dealer. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

You do take a couple of dash bits out but being LR it's 90% plug n play with a couplr of broken clips on the way....couple of hours later and Neil Diamond is playing through the dreadfully under specified 'logic7' !! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Cheers for the replies .

The alternator , what kind of money are we talking ? Is it an easy change ?

With the OEM ipod kit , can I keep the cd changer or is it a replacement ?

Hi Stephen car dealer in Stillorgan by chance?

alternator is a defo to budget for in particular on 2007 /08 cars. Mine went at 77 k miles but I had a warranty. Budget for approx 800 euro .
Btw the air box should move around as you describe they all do that and it's normal. I think as when the engine is running it needs box to move with it hence need for it flexible.

Thats the one conor. Had a good look over it the other day, proce is a little higher than id want but the spec cant be beat. Theres a little rust under the rear arches but im going to ask to have that sorted , a new decent battery and the alternator and gearbox / diff fluid done. Must double check the suspension arms too
