maybe a daft question - What bicycle ?

Speculative post - I am going on a health kick, drivers are obviously health related but also want to get my golf back to my halcyon days (bloody rory mcilroy), Anyway I enjoy cycling and currently use an old MB which is great for the forest and hacks but as usual I want more!! Requirements would be a. mainly road use with ability to do grass tracks b. I am 6'4 and currently 18 stone and will only go to 16 as that is my target weight, otherwise I look like goofy Thumbs Up Budget initially about £1000/1500. Any pointers would be gratefully received..thanks

Rosco

THIS Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

For £400 it seems to be the bargain of the month

Or if that doesn't work for you and you're set on off road than look at Cyclocross bikes, something like the Boardman CX Comp from Halfords at £600

Apparently they were around £1400 and couldn't sell them so they reduced them to £800. That brought them into the price range of Boardman etc and they still didn't sell si they've further reduced them, possibly to get rid of the high stocks they are holding. Seems like a heck of a bargain to me, if you were to buy the parts separately they would cost a heck of a lot more than the £400

Never checked sizes, just done it now. 23" will be too small for you

I'm reading this thread with great interest as to what 47 has to say... Would this 'Argos' bike (partially made from carbon) expect to see faster times achieved than a more traditional (not heavy but) steel road bike?

Not sure Rosco, is it possible to order it and if the wrong size reject it as the wrong size? Distance selling/buying law and all that Thumbs Up

The thing that makes faster times is faster legs pld118, time to MTFU, get out and hit the hills Laughing Laughing
Seriously though, I'm sure your steel frame will be smoother over rougher roads, carbon is great but nothing beats the comfort of a steel frame.

Had a think about this Rosco and if I were looking for N+1 to suit your requirements then the bike I would choose would be this for £1200

Highly regarded as a fantastic general all rounder and holds its value better than most

MTFU! Rolling with laughter

Never knew that... actually don't know much!

What I did guess was that you can bang on about this frame and that but if your legs, heart and lungs are strong, you'll be there or there abouts!

Thumbs Up

I've just bought a Boardman Team Carbon on the cycle 2 work scheme. It was reduced from £999 to £800 and by the time I've paid for it, it will have cost me around £600ish.

Lovely bike to ride and I've been cycling to work on it to get fit!
