My SC a bit slow on kick down

Ok so today I went to overtake and put my foot flat down.

But I got to a certain speed / revs (didn't see what exactly) and the car felt like it was being held back or restricted in some way

Anyway I eased off the accelerator a little and pressed down again. The revs dropped then picked up again and everything was fine and dandy. Normal service resumed

Any ideas what this problem is? I'm driving a 2006 SC btw

Cheers
Mike

the only time this has happened to me is when I'm running on LPG and near empty. I put my foot down and it hesitates as the changeover to petrol happens. I don't notice it when I'm not hoofing it.
this is only a possible if you are LPG and as you are Mokba I don't suppose you are

Nope not LPG. I think that Russians consider LPG is for the weak. Like drinking vodka with coke or sprite. It's just not done out here old chap.
I was wondering if it was either something to do with my gearbox or supercharger

What was your fuel level at the time ? balancer pump in the tank is famously week and its best not to run Superchargers below 1/3 regularly . 2008 MY Supercharged

Ok tried it again tonight with 3/4 of a tank in and it still did the same. So normal acceleration seems fine

But in kick down. It goes great until 5,000 revs then feels like it needs to change gear or something but it doesn't. Once it hits 5,000 revs , the revs continue to build but reeeaaaally slowly

Any ideas guys?

Changed my air filter few weeks ago, was filthy .... car feels a bit perkier now, might be worth considering.

Supercharger belt still attached?

Not sure if it can be seen without removing the engine cover or not - you should be able to hear the distinctive sound when at high revs tho, if the belt wasn't attached you wouldn't hear the charger.

OK thanks
This is happening about 5,000 revs - does this have any significance?

Hi
Firstly I haven't had the car for too long so not too sure what the SC whine should sound like tbh. Ill take it up to 5,000 revs tonight (if I can find enough road to give it some boot in heavy Moscow traffic !!) and see what exactly I can hear

As yet I haven't had the codes read. Was trying to see if we could find the expected fault here before I went out and spent some money

You need to get yourself an IID tool or Faultmate.

Suggest to run injector cleaner if you can get decent stuff there (no vodka won't do Smile ). It could be dirty fuel, fuel in the system for too long.

Also the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) could be a bit dirty. This sensor is located in the inlet hose from filter to engine, so easy to get to. Just take it out, clean it (cleaning alcohol or vodka Smile ) and put it back in.

Check the air filter and if dirty, just put a new one in.

The whine is not very loud on the 4.2 but definitely noticable. It is a sound you don't here on NA or turbo cars, it is very distinct.

My money is on fuel delivery. I replaced the fuel pump on my 4.2 and had the entire fuel system cleaned and the intlet as well. All my problems were gone afterwards. I did do a full ECU reflash to the latest software as well, also recommendable.

You don't have to replace the pump but do replace the fuel filter (it is fitted onto the pump and therefor in the tank and it is accessed by removing the rear bench seat to gain access) and then run injector cleaner for a bit. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Thanks for such a detailed response

Tried the car again tonight and I think I can hear the SC.
so basically the car is getting up to 5,000 revs then it's as if it needs to change gear and is stuck on a limiter. It's does go beyond 5,000 revs but extremely slowly
