Still on the lookout for a car to use for the time being , have been on AT's and the usual suspects sites ....

Been looking at a lot of S class Mercs as i quite like them ....

But ...

Came across this the BMW 750's 760's just wondering if anyone on here has had one and are they any good or just massive F Censored k Off cars ....

This is just an example

My question is why haven't you bought an S-Class yet?

I'm not knocking the 7-Series as I've no experience of them, but if you like the 'S' and haven't bought one, what attracts you to a 7? Si. <This is my name.

Been reading a lot of reviews on the S's and they seem to have a fair amount of faults with them and into the bargain the best ones for sale are away down in Englandshire in the back of beyond areas ( nearest airports are miles away Laughing )

So came across the 7's read a few of the reviews and they seem quite favourable , so just wondered if anyone on here has had one since they seem to have had every other car ... Laughing

Plus into the bargain i have had a lot of things happen up at my end to sort out which has taken up my time too , as the saying goes ... " get my finger out my arse and get a car sorted "

Had plenty S-Class Mercs and wouldn't have another. Admittedly I've never had the latest model but if they are anything like the previous car then the bean counters will have done an excellent job of ruining a great car

My tuppence worth... had a few mercs in the early 90,s couldnt fault them, bought a new s320cdi in 2002 and got rid of it within 6 months, most unreliable car ever and swore i wouldnt have another and have stuck to that. Looking recently for a motorway muncher and asking colleagues/friends who have them. Consensus seems to be Mercs are still unreliable and BMWs are great. That is from high mileage users with recent model vehicles. On a personal note I love the s class and have an old w140 which is great but you pays your money etc.......

I'll try to add what i can from my knowledge and experiance:

If you like to drive it's the BMW over the S Class
If you want a large cc petrol engine it's the S Class over the BMW
If you're like me and like to accelerate rather than brake when you approach roundabouts then it's the BMW
If you like to arrive after a 3+hrs motorway run feeling like you've only set-off it's the S Class

Runnig costs for both are pretty much similar with places like Euro Cr Parts nowadays (excluding fuel of course)

S Class's may have problems with their electronic dash displays..... 7 Series with suspension / steering related wear and tear

hope this helps Very Happy

Widely known that the W140 was the last of the proper S class, after that model ended build time and quality went downhill like a runaway train, had a 2005 E320CDI moneypit, last straw was SBC pump going west, approx 2k from Merc & about 1400 from indy, bye bye Merc & hello TDV8, would not have another Merc Thumbs Up

I love these S-Class models and have been having incredibly guilty thoughts about buying one of late. Embarassed

My limited experience is something along the lines of:

If you want effortless motorway cruising whereby the only thing you can hear is the radio then Merc.

If you want to hear a glorious V8 / V12 subtly stirring away instead of the radio and come out of the roundabout with just a hint of opposite lock then BMW.

I like both but the BM would draw my heart.

Looked at an S on Saturday. Lovely car, previous generation.

Very, very nice. But I still like the FFRR better.

After some investigating, one of the best things about an S: when you take the FFRR in for repairs, you'll go, "Wow, that was CHEAP!" Very Happy

I loved the look of the 90s era 7s, but hated the replacement. They are finally starting to look okay again, but not great.

Have you thought oh an XJ-L? They're a lovely looking car and the reviews say they're more driver centred than the German alternatives.

I haven't seen much debadging over here.

We don't tend to get as many different models of a given car over here.

Merc is definitely not the "taxi car" over here. They only sell the high spec ones, so the badges don't need to differentiate nearly as much.

Agreed: FFRR without bonnet letters looks like it's had a cheap respray.
