Bonnet stay release or not?

In order to swap out the battery do you need to undo the two hydraulic stays for the bonnet to open it further?

If so, how is it done?

Thanks Discovery 4 HSE

Allows bonnet to go vertical , so much better access.

There is 1 spring clip on each side. Lever off with a small flat screwdriver ,
Taking care not to let it spring off.
We propped up with a broom handle Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

You don't need to prop it once the strus have been dislocated.

On each of the hinges there is a wee fold out clip with a hole that pops over a pin on the other hinge part and this holds the bonnet in the vertical position.

Job is a lot easier with two - one to hold the bonnet while the other releases the clips (beware - they can fly for miles Big Cry )

Good luck.

Are the spring clips on the top or bottom part of the telescopic arm? ie attached to the bonnet or the wing end? Discovery 4 HSE

On my 2006 I put the new 100 Ah in without removing the struts, tight but doable. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Both!

I usually just remove the clips from the one on the wing, easier to get at.

As mentioned above use two people to remove and refit - just easier to realign the telescopics. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Unclip at the bottom of the struts but don't take the clips off just leaver them down a bit until they release then you don't have to spend the rest of the afternoon on your hands and knees looking for the one that flew off some where Big Cry 2008 MY Supercharged

Adam, lever out the lower clip by around 2mm then pull the lower ball socket apart... Then when its off, push the clip back into its original place (so when you push the ram back on, it automatically locks back on) IMPORTANT POINT! Put the end of the ram you have just removed UNDER the corner of the under bonnet sound proofing carpet. (That way, when you lower the bonnet to re-fit the gas struts they DON'T SCRATCH the front wings!!!) Do the other side the same, then secure the bonnet in the upright position using BOTH of the clip sliders! (your bonnet is aluminium and will warp VERY VERY EASILY!!! Just takes a gust of wind!)

Remove the pollen filter housing (2x nuts 13mm spanner) and slide it out of the way for better access Thumbs Up
