.... and no, not for the usual 'fried mars bar' reason

Anyone else? Half my client's are English, I'm in London at least once a month and I'm also very proud to be British. A few London based friends have asked my opinion on independence, which I'm absolutely against

.... I can't help but feel my country is making a laughing stock of itself.

What's the thoughts in the rUK? Is there genuine contempt about what the Scots are doing?

To give you a bit of context to what Scotland's like at the minute, I've been told to f*ck off back to England because I politely told someone I'm voting no, and I've been called a traitor and a Tory c*nt along with various other things because I express views that I'm in favor of the union. Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White

Ah, the mentality of the "Yes" crowd strikes again

I get asked the same question a lot, when out fixing customers cars. It always comes up in conversation.
They all get the same reply, undecided/not voting

I'm a firm believer in democracy, but this looks to me like an unnecessary farce.
Allowing 16 & 17 year olds to decide on something like this ? Really ? It beggers belief . . .
Ultimately I reckon the yes vote may well win, but as a British taxpayer I want to know who will be paying for it ? Will I ?
It will cost countless billions and will end up to be shown for what it is - a farce.

It is an absolute farce Until 12 months ago there wasn't even much of an appetite for it..... yet now everyone thinks they understand the ins and outs of currency, the financial markets and the 'drain' on Scotland's finances that is London I've heard that one more than once!

Genuinely don't know what to vote for.

If we vote yes, we get a whole lot of uncertainty, but could work out very well for Scotland

If we vote know, we know we will continue to get shafted by Westminster...


Makes you wonder though, why is Westminster so keen to keep Scotland as part of the union, if we are all subsidised as heavily as they say we are?
The latest poll showing Yes ahead for the first time has certainly got them worried...

@andy180, my experiences are similar, if you are a NO voter and reasonably educated then you are an English (fill in the blank) I despair of the whole thing, however, even with a yes vote it legally cant happen as due diligence has not been adhered to. Another complete waste of taxes by the Scottish Government, again.......

Andy, I was born in Scotland but have lived the last 25 years in England. I truly believe Yes vote will be a disaster for Scotland and the UK as a whole.

The Yes campaign is being advanced by whipping up nationalist fever and ignoring fundamental problems like which currency will an independent Scotland use, will it honour it's debt obligations and an acknowledgement that EU membership will not be forthcoming any time soon.

I find it much like telling people you vote Conservative - you demonised as a heartless capitalist with no social conscious who will happily exploit working people for you own enrichment.

Thats all very well, but a country is just like a business - ultimately you can't spend what you don't have and the markets will stop lending you money. The last Labour government managed to run up massive debts during a buoyant economic cycle. It will take us years to pay them down, but at least the current government are realistic about managing our economy.

The Yes campaign is the same, lots of promises of better public facilities, benefits, wages, housing etc. and no answer to fundamental questions about how it will all be paid for (or even in which currency!)

I really worry about the future of Scotland if the Yes vote wins, the country will see a massive exodus of capital and talent as those who are able to seek security elsewhere, those left behind will face a very uncertain future. 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I've already voted, as I'll be on holiday on the day I guess I'll be joining the line of English tw@ts given my decision.

It was very telling the other day, whilst out driving that almost all the NO signs had been defaced and yet none of the YES ones had been. Says a lot about the strategy of the yes campaign.

I am happy to say I am going to vote No, but I wish the vote was last week as I am now getting fed up of all the that the yes campaign keep coming up with.

Would love to know how Westminster are going to privatise the NHS in Scotland when it is under the control of the Scottish Parliament, Why does the yes campaign think they will get a currency union do they not understand no means NO. The YES campaign guys over on the Disco3 forum - Scottish Independence - will sort it all out and apparently there is absolutely no risk what-so-ever!!!
Once Wee Eck gets his way we'll even have better roads around Peterhead as Westminster have gone out of their way to shaft that area

I also truly believe in democracy, but the 'yes' bandwagon seems to be in full swing with very little thought for the consequences. There is so much anti UK media manipulation that the term 'brainwashed' springs to mind.

My background? I work offshore via Aberdeen as an electrician for a company who drills for oil, I have a wide spectrum of friends and a lot of those are Scottish. I truly believe that if Scotland was independent prior to O&G discovery then it may have turned into one of the worlds richest countries, wealth that continues to be harvested from new fields such as the Clair.

In today's terms, I fear an independent Scotland will be worse off financially and socially. England vs Scotland (or Scotland vs England) has only in recent years became a much nicer topic, this could bring things back to the dark ages again.

I also just read a very good topic in the telegraph predicting mortgage rates to rise in the future due to a weaker Scottish currency. I can't discuss these things with a lot of my friends north of the boarder, I get accused of being an idiot or worse... Funnily only by the younger generation.

Anyways my opinion is that we are better as a United Kingdom, my gut feeling says Scotland will go solo, I just hope it works out well and I don't end up on a salary of 1.76 million Scottish Ugandan Dollars per annum as my salary before tax. Ahh taxation, now that's another topic.

I'll finish off by saying as an Englishman it's actually non of my business, I wish everyone all the best and let's see what democracy really decides.

I meet all sorts of folk and the majority are NO voters.
I feel the yes campaign are starting to get quite aggressive. They seem to think they are more Scottish than the NO voters.
No matter which way it goes I think there will be a lot of bad feeling harboured by the yes voters against the NO's... Previously..

Its a sad mixture of stupidity and willful ignorance; I moved to Edinburgh when I was 10 and had to put up with dogs abuse for 20 yrs heard every possible term of abuse. The way the nationalist view history (and teach it) is one of the greatest crimes; 1960s misty eyed romantiscm combined with an unpleasant sense of entitlement. I fear this will go down as the vote of the neds.

Now I've had enough, if thats what they want give to them, brick up the wall and let them have at it. It'll be the last time I buy Scottish beef or anything else.

@contraband, I have yet to meet a YES voter, so am not sure who they are canvassing, however I can guarantee if i drove to the poor parts tonight then I would get a YES, (no offence)
