The windscreen wipers ran off engine vacuum so when you went up hill they went grindingly slowly, then down hill they'd be full speed again. Full of character that car was.

Not forgetting the 3 speed gearbox and no synchro in first gear. No big end shells, the white metal had to be melter onto the conrods and then honed to fit the crankshaft...Ah the joys of vintage cars

That's a lot for a MkII..... Bonhams had one a couple of months ago priced at 12-15..
Just shows how the Classic Market is moving...... It's bonkers out there. Regards

2009 D4; 1993 Classic 3.9 VSE

My Dad had one of these, the Ford Escort! He had that from when I was born in 1955 until we got our first 'new' car which was a 1965 Ford Cortina Mk1 which had the new fangled 'Aeroflow' ventilation!!

The Escort was fitted with a Philips 'removable' car radio which you could use in the house plugged into the mains, then slide it into a metal frame bolted under the dashboard and use it as a car radio, as I remember it had a single speaker mounted in the front passenger footwell. And I remember the vacuum wipers!!

My father had a terrible taste in cars. Actually, he had terrible taste full stop.

He worked in Kuwait for a while and had a huge choice of very cheap American V8 muscle cars and fuel was like 7p a gallon. What did he buy?

A Toyota Cressida.



Can't imagine even a good one of those would be worth much now.

Same could be said of the Capri, although the first one was the 'Consul Capri'

I guess there are classic cars and there are old cars. The first type you can sell, the second you pay to have hauled away...
