More fuel guage antics

Ok so i got back from tin tenting last night, just under 1/4 tank left, got in this evening, just under half a tank.......

Went to garage and brimmed it, took 97 litres Shocked

How big is the tank guys, cos by my calculation i had no fuel in and 1/3 of a tank showing!

Any hoo i have now filled it too full and the guage is having a dicky fit again. Like it did before empty to full back and forwards!

Don't mind that so much as it only does it when super full, but the "you have more fuel on your guage than is in the car" scenario worries me slightly, as iirc i was about 10 yds from running out. Big Cry

Looks like it needs a new sender at the minimum, possibly 2. Anyone know how much disassembly is needed to get them out? I have seen they will come out from the top, but it look if there is much trim to remove to get under the carpet first.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

For info, the 2 senders and pump for the TDV8 come as one unit, which has now arrived, but am going to leave it to LR to change it during the service next week, as i loathe having to get the diesel smell of arms etc, which i seem to spend my life doing when FLT and digger break down.....

Fuel gauge seems to stick between 3/4 and 1/2 then drop quickly to 1/2, not dared to run it any emptier as it is currently saying range 380miles, with 1/2 a tank and 240 miles covered since last fill up.....which sounds a bit optimistic Whistle

its pretty much a 20 gallon tank, with an average of roughly 20mpg at present (heavy foot) should give 400miles, so I'm currently driving by the trip computer for range. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

My SC ran out on the M8 yesterday. The light came on about a minute before it ran out whilst it was showing 49 miles left in the tank.

Annoyingly I was at the foot of a slip road, 200 yards away at the top was the Shell station that I was trying to get to as well Big Cry

I was going to order one this morning to fit it but there's 100 litres sitting in the tank at the moment, and with the car being used sparingly at weekends at the moment that'll last about a month so I think I'll wait a while before ordering one.

Is it the same to fit on a TDV8 as it is on the SC?

Have you tried a battery reset out of interest? The gauge takes average readings all the time and if one component has a "funny five" it can screw things up for weeks!

Try a battery reset first Thumbs Up
