Now that's a good price, I've seen threads of gearbox/ torque converter changes up to 3k!

It may be worth emphasising that there’s a huge difference between a transmission rebuild and just replacing the torque converter. There’s no need to open up the transmission to replace the torque converter and therefore no specialist knowledge is required - any competent mechanic should be able to do it. The book time for the whole job is around 5 hours. Once the transmission is on the floor the torque converter simply slides off its splines and the new one slides on in its place – a very quick swap. A (high quality) remanufactured torque converter costs around the £250 mark.

140k it was on and took him 5days it was the splines that were stripped on a few gears so the whole kaboodle was changed including solenoids I've known him 20 years and sent many boxes to him when we had the car pitch and always been good and fair. _____________________________________________________
