This might be worth considering... My mum has a pcp/hire/whatever on a 2nd hand car. It's a Honda crv and I think it was about 3 or 4 when she got it. The car was like new and the payments are much smaller compared to a new car. Her servicing costs and tyres and road tax are all included. There is every chance a similar deal could be available by someone on a low mileage fattie? Previously..

It's fair enough that people can acquire cars in this way if they want to and the initial payment, monthly payments and final option payment are all relative to the car of course.

So what sort of deposit would the person have had to put down on the CLS SB on the 2 year lease pj as that does seem like a seductive offer!

What happened to spending what you earned yesterday not what you think you'll earn tomorrow? |

I thinks the important word here is "affordability". Can you afford to buy it outright? If yes, you're very lucky, so fill your boots. Can you afford to pay it from however you generate your income? If yes, why not? The only issue, as I see it, is if you overload yourself and can't pay. That's where there's a problem.

For sure Alan, if everyone waited until they had the cash in the bank to buy everything outright, maybe so called 'big ticket' items would, in the main, sit gathering dust.

Indeed. That example is ridiculous to me too. My concept of a lease deal, is perhaps 3 or 6 payments up front, followed by relatively small monthly payments, say £400-£500, over 3 years and a GFMV, so at that point you can hand it back, or pay the outstanding balance by whatever means at your disposal.
