Fault Code PO40D-00 which is....

....(2F) Exhaust Gas recirculation temperature sensor A - circuit high

The above fault code was found and advised upon by Craig when I visited his premises last month and following his advice, I booked the car into the supplying dealer. Craig found that the code kept re-apprearing when cleared.

The dealer is saying this code is entirely normal, nothing to be worried about and often shows up on the TDV8 engine. Having looked at the thread in the link and remembering Craig's advice to get the sensor changed (how dare he go on holiday at exactly the time I need his help Wink ), should I be concerned that the dealer is advising something different i.e. all fine, nothing to worry about and no need for the sensor to be replaced?

Obviously I am concerned about the effect this may/will have long-term on the EGR and quite frankly, I don't trust any dealer regardless of what make cars they are selling.

TIA in advance for advice and opinions.

I spoke to JLR and the customer services chap let it slip that this was a code he recognised and it was a common fault. He started off by saying that the dealer shouldn't have told me that no work was needed...he called them to tell them to do the work but on his return he said they were right to tell me it didn't need doing.

When I queried why other owners who had brought this to attention had had the sensor replaced under warranty, he said that whilst they used to, maybe something had changed and it was decided that there was no need for the part to be replaced.

Now I am left in the position whereby I either don't believe them but can do nothing to convince them to do the work or I believe them and carry on.

Any thoughts? What would you do?

Anyone have any opinions about what to do?

Just carry on or replace the part at my own cost?

Sorry, don't know about these things that use the fuel of the devil....

I'd leave it and have a chat with Craig when he comes home from Mickey's place.... Thumbs Up Pete

That was pretty much the direction I was thinking, Pete; thanks for that. I'll hold off buying a replacement sensor for now....I also got a price from Dan for a complete EGR in anticipation of my options.

Oh no... That don't sound good GLM...

Insist they change it or, buy the sensor (£40ish) and have LR dealer fit it! @ 0.8hr labour (book time)

If the fight is not worth it to you? Have you read about the member travelling through France with the same issue/fault code?

Hi Craig. Thanks for taking time out from your holiday to respond.

I haven't seen the thread about the member travelling through France....haven't found it on a search as yet.

I'm pretty sure they won't change it, no matter how much I insist. JLR started out with, they should be changing that, went off to speak to the dealer and on return changed the tune to, that's fine, no issue.

I really don't know what's going on with them (dealer and JLR) but there is no question that I want this done, even if I have to pay for it. After all, 0.8 hours (book time) labour and £40 for the part is nothing for peace of mind.

All I have to do is find a dealer who will do it....

Your very welcome Thumbs Up day off today so just chilling by the pool after shopping for a new wardrobe x 4 this morning Rolling Eyes

Clearly your sensor/probe needs changing as its duff! I would speak to JLR Cus services or drop them a PM on this forum... Lucy I think? And see what can be done before you start having DPF issues as your car will now be over fuelling (stinks) which in turn fills your DPF 10x quicker than normal!!! Shocked

Fingers crossed you get it sorted Thumbs Up

Once again Craig, many thanks for your advice. I'm not sure about phoning JLR having been given the cold shoulder once so we will have to see what this does...

Update.

Just back from the dealer where I spoke to the guy in charge of the workshop, a very helpful young man.

The sensor has nothing to do with the EGR, DPF or over-fuelling. He has never had to replace one as it is a common signal that does not cause a dashboard warning and neither can it lead to over-fuelling and it cannot affect the EGR or DPF in any way.

H-E-L-P!
