Hi guys my car has developed a noticeable creaking/squeaking noise when driving and Turning the steering wheel either left of right. Any ideas what could be causing it and how to go about fixing it?

I've also noticed that there is play in the steering when in general - I can turn it maybe a few inches without the wheels turning - is this normal?

I am no mechanic but check the SW UJ and steering rod ends for wear/play.

Mine is more of a groan than a power steering "scream" of low fluid or air in the system.

Car has just been through MOT the day i brought it and to be honest it only really started doing it when i took the original 18" wheels off and put the 22" rims on.. Im kinda guessing its the extra strain the tyre footprints are putting on the steering.

Not really concerned about the groaning as its only at low speed (shunting), but i have noticed about an inch play in the steering now.
