Right chaps, some advice please. We're going on holiday over Christmas and New Year to the Dominican republic and I want some decent photos this time.

Got this in the last week and I have to say for a compact it takes awesome pics and with a 30x zoom it is something else £299.99 with £30.00 cash-back , just awesome

I gave up on compacts a few years ago when smartphone cameras improved. I agree that you and I might have different views on what is acceptable quality. |

I'm properly glad I asked now. From what I can tell only Sony and Canon actually make their own cameras in the compact sector.

Maybe not quite small enough but I've got a Fuji X10 compact which I would recommend for sure. Picture quality is fantastic. Might be worth a look next time you're in the camera shop.

I know a couple of pro togs who both recommend Olympus if anyone asks for recommendation on sub DSLR cameras.

bright sun .....you need something with a view finder (evf or optical) so you can see what you want to take a pic of.. ... - .- -.

I shoot Nikon, have 300s and recently bought a D610 plus some FX full frame lenses. Great piece of kit but when we go on holiday I use the other halfs Panasonic Lumix TZ30.

Before having the Nikon 300s, I used to carry around a NikonD90. A lightweight (in comparison) DSLR and easy to carry around and achieved these shots
