Going to see an SC this afternoon...

Went to see two SC's on Thursday in Glasgow that were being sold by a garage and described as immaculate.

Upon arriving he only had one on site. A silver 2005 with 101k miles that was incredibly scruffy, rust bubbles on the tailgate, mismatched tyres, scruffy interior and a flat battery so couldn't even be heard running which was a little worrying as the oil on the dipstick was right at minimum.

Apparently the other car he had was away at the garage having a suspension airbag replaced and had never actually made it to the forecourt yet which is infuriating as I'd only phoned him and been told both were there half an hour prior to arriving.

Anyway, this one I'm going to see today is just south of Newcastle and looks very tidy in the pictures. It's had one owner from new, full LR history, and has been covered by an LR extended warranty up until February. I've also been assured that there isn't a spot of rust on it anywhere. I wanted an 07 with the newer interior but this one is in the right place, at the right time, at the right price so we'll go and see whats what.

Anybody got anything specific worth looking at? It does need the TV upgrade to the hybrid unit - anyone know what this costs?
Other then that I've printed off pld118's buyers guide which I'll have a read through before we arrive and hopefully won't end up buying a dog!

My kind of car:
One owner
Full history
Extended warranty
Lots of paperwork

All good with a full fat, I reckon -

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

David, the above link shows a forum member wanted to sell a plug and play hybrid for £320.

Bit of a heads up on likely cost if nothing else.

Sounds like everything should be in order at Newcastle, touch wood.

Thumbs Up

Hi David,

You should be able to pick up a Hybrid TV unit for around £350 - £400 on Fleabay. I fitted one in my previous 2006 S/C.

I hope the car turns out to be a good one for you! Thumbs Up

Cheers,

Hmm, I'm already having second thoughts and haven't even left the house yet.

I asked the guy for it's number plate to HPi Check it and he gave me it without hesitating.

It turns out that he's the 5th owner of the car, not the 1st. It's not even been mistaken for 1 previous keeper.

Plate changes even give it away...

29/9/06 - MA56 LHF (Registered New) (Possible Demo?)
15/11/06 - 777 DDM
29/1/13 - HAM 111
19/11/13 - NM56 FVC
23/1/14 - This is when it went onto the current sellers plate.

It's had a full 2012 facelift done on it too. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing really. It's never been written off on file but I'm wondering if it's maybe been damaged and had the conversion done as a result?

According to the seller it had a massive file of receipts with the car and that the facelift cost £7k.

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I got Gary to help me (part because I'm living overseas, part because I wanted to use his experience) with my search. After almost getting a TDV8 (turbo issues that surfaced suddenly made us both very skittish) I found a 5.0 SC and then Gary did all the hard work on testing and getting it for me.

I can't say it enough that I think Gary did a brilliant job on my behalf and the resulting car is absolutely brilliant. Now I do understand that he didn't make it brilliant (although he did a marvelous job in detailing it and getting some service work done), he did test it very thoroughly and got it at a good price.

I can recommend using him for this process and avoid all kinds of issues you are running into now. Besides, he has a much larger database of cars to look for the right one than most of us.

Just my 2p worth Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Well I decided I'd have an afternoon trip to Newcastle as my sister lives down there anyway.

I got to the SC and found it was exactly as described. Everything electrical worked exactly as it should, the car drove beautifully, not a knock, bang or rattle from it. The spare wheel area was bone dry with no signs of any moisture ever having been in there.

So... I'm pleased to announce that I'm now a paid up member of the SC Club Very Happy

Just need to let the guy get his number plate off it and I can collect it.

Pictures to follow later.

Have now started a thread in my RR.

I had a bad feeling on the phone but decided to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. After having met him, driven it and seen the car I think I was being premature. It does look a nice genuine car.

Hey ho... time will tell I guess.
