Air Con is STILL NOT WORKING

After half an hour on full, the cabin was still to hot. Guess a re-gas is order. ATS are doing a special so I will take it there this week.

In my experience, a regas only is a false economy.

If (as it sounds) the gas has gone, it therefore must have a leak or it would still be there. Usually the condenser goes as it's at the front and takes the brunt.

I would personally have a proper air con check with a leak test.

It may well be, of course, that ATS do a pressure test first in any case.

I have a vague recollection that air con service agents are not allowed to just regas on the basis that the gas may escape into the environment. I could be wrong so it's worth checking.

I'll bet you your condesor has gone though. Easy job and not too expensive. Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC

As SKOT says, Air con chaps will not be allowed to let it vent to air. They will prob use a vacuum to get the remaining refrigerant out and then do a leak test.

At least you'll find out where the leak is.

If it's not obvious, they sometimes put an ultraviolet dye in the system and look for where it escapes...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

You are all quite correct. ATS do conduct a pressure test first, all being well they will then do an antibacterial flush then a re-gas.

Is your air con compressor working as mine does not. I took the under shield off and checkecked and the clutch is not locking up but have not looked into it anymore.

I'm not 100%, but I don't think the air con will engage if the gas is low, so the clutch etc could be fine, but the interlocks on the system will stop it engaging. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Laughing in other words, nothing will work until it has gas in it. That's your first port of call, as you correctly intend to do.

Seems to make more sense than taking it to a dealer who will charge me £50 per hour for a minimum of 2 hours, only to tell me it probably needs a re-gas.

Had a similar thing in another car, after a re-gas it was like Ice Station Zebra, Loverly Jubberly.

I have re-gassed three Range Rovers at the Halfords Auto Centre and from warm air to perfect VERY COLD aircon working brilliant. My car was done 6 month ago and is still ICE COLD so there were no leaks. Older cars simply run out of gas...

My freezer in my garage is 15 years old and it hasn't run out of gas yet.

The only reason aircon on cars needs re-gassing is because the gas/refrigerant has leaked/escaped.

If you loose your gas in a year or less then the air con system should be considered as compromised, there not supposed to be a total lose system like burning fuel in the car. The trouble comes in finding leaks that are so small it takes many months or over a year for the gas to escape.

My previous RR went 8 years before I got it re-gassed as it was not performing as well as I remember. so when I got it checked the refrigerant level was just above the setting that would shut it down. They did a leak test and vacuum test which all passed ok. but obviously the gas had escaped its just it is such a slow leak over so many years that it is extremely difficult to detect, so we just re-gas.

Personally if my system needed re-gassing in less than 3 years then I would be concerned.

Three years I would be concerned too!

My car was nearly 10 years old when re-gassed.... (first time ever probably)

I did say older cars.....
