No the Air-con specialist did not see this damage, or if he did he didn't say anything!

I must admit that as I was talking to him I did get the impression that he was hearing the sound of the cash till. Needless to say I have now been to another who seems to be a decent sort.

Now I know about the damaged pump, I am keen to change it myself ( I am handy with a set of spanners) if only to learn a little more about the vehicle.

sadly that picture I posted was of my old compressor going for scrap which you could have had to see if it yelded the part you reqiured. gone now. but I would think that it was removed, as it couldnt then engage when accidentally operated, perhaps causing noise from a knackered pump. -or the 12mm nut was loose!
on my 4.4 its on the left, low down. removing the water rad, and then attacking the hoses, with the undertay off. and from beneath I removed the three longish bolts and it came off etc. use a good set of torx key sockets as it was bloody tight! the AC hoses are pushed on, with a small dowel to locate them, so don't go twisting them to remove. you might want an old sharpened screwdriver to prise them gently. you can order new seals from dealers around £4 each. I 'wetted' the holes with a little oil to bed them etc. it wasn't a tough job. but I cant say that about the diesel. if you are leaving it open overnight, then you must thougholy tape over the pipes with an old latex glove finger to stop the damp entering etc. and only unplug your new compressor when its on.
lastly as metioned earlier, when its gassed and running cool, with a paintbrush and fairy liquid in a cup of water,, brush over the connections, just to see if the now full pressure sysem is leaking, so you don't have to find a possible leak, with no gas left to 'see'

Thanks for that buddy. Can't do a lot right now- came off my motorbike and smashed a few ribs.

As soon as I can breath without tears I will tackle the job. Gonna use a new pump unit rather than take a chance with a second hand one.

Thanks for that. Bike is fixable not a lot of damage to be fair. Came off on a diesel spill and hit the deck very hard.

The injuries will give me the opportunity to find a new pump at the best price I hope. Not to fazed about fitting it, I am aware of all the precautions, so will take my time.

Also got to sort the false (I hope) faults that keep appearing on the message centre. All require wheel removal and whilst they are off, new discs and pads all round + calipers overhauled (considering having them sandblasted and painted while i am at it). All of which are heavy jobs at the best of times, so with broken ribs it is out of the question for now.

Going to give the old girl a service whilst I am at it, Oil, all filters including auto gearbox. Might be able to do that lot without to much pain.

My 2002 needed doing yearly! they couldn't find a leak. I'm told newer cars run on minimal gas, a small loss and the system won't work to protect the compressor. My Merc SL on the other hand went 8 yrs until I sold it without attention, but it was a 92 model, so probably had loads of spare capacity if it lost a bit.
