United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue
[Wanted] Wanted: Tow Bar

Looking for a tow bar for a 2006 Supercharged FF.

Need the armature, and towing electrics. Have got a drop plate but if it's for sale with the removable part as well I'd be tempted to take the lot Smile

Thanks

Apologies for hijacking thread but once the OP is sorted, I am in the market for a complete towbar/electrics assembly too.
Later type L322. Incidentally when do the towbar armatures change over? 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

You're right thank you.
Now what are they opinions for farmers hitch or swan neck?

Am I right in thinking the armature is the same for both, you just choose which ball type you prefer?
Any advice? 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

Yes - armature is the same

Swan neck has the mounting bolted to the armature, then the remainder of the swan neck sits in the under floor compartment next to the spare.

Farmers can either be bolted, or use a pin - I use a pin, so it quick releases easily and leaves less visible than the swan neck - however, it doesn't fit away nicely in the boot.

If you've ever seen the US 2" receiver system, it's basically the same, except it used 50mm rather than 2"

In my opinion the farmers hitch is the more useful:
1. You can adjust the height - perhaps not an issue but I tow a variety of trailers, one triple axle that sits quite high
2. You can bolt a bike-rack to it
3. Cheaper

I will admit that the swan neck potentially looks a bit nicer / less clunky but given the farmers is more practical and noticeably cheaper I'd (and have) gone for that one. In fact ended up with two now...

I might be tempted to agree and buy the farmer hitch as my old Brian James 4 wheel trailer seemed to need some adjustment on the back of my Cayenne, so if I bought a new one I'd probably go farmers hitch but if a used swan neck came at a decent price I'd have that because of the nicer storage solution.

How tricky is it to attach a farmers hitch, looks like a lay under the car to attach piece of kit from what I have seen before. 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

Slot hitch into receiver. Insert pin, insert R clip. Done. Simpler than a swan hitch.

Agreed, we have the farmers hitch, you don't have to get under the FF to install it, and it takes all of 10 seconds. Thumbs Up

I also discovered that you CAN use an early (02-05) armature on a later (06 - 12) car Very Happy (involves cutting right angle brackets for exhaust mountings off the 2 'crash bars' which you remove as part of the installation) but you CAN'T use the later armature on the earlier car.

(Westfalia confirmed that this is acceptable Thumbs Up , we bought a tow bar described as the later type from e-bay, but found when we came to fit it that it was in fact the earlier one. 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)
