Well Chris Harris (Pistonheads) suggests 14mpg on a cross country run... I don't do massive mileage, but I fear a diesel is the sensible option... I'm so tempted by this though!

Yes. Hard though it is to believe, the NA 5.0 is more frugal than the NA 4.4.

My SC 4.2 is getting a calculated 19mpg* on a 75 mile a day commute into Hammersmith and back.
