Arrghh!

Second problem of the day!

2007 FFRR supercharged (key in dash)

The key won't turn in the ignition barrel, I can hear a fait whur whur noise from the steering column but the lock doesn't disengage and you also can't turn the key.

The battery is fully charged and I even hooked up another just in case but no joy.

Any thoughts?

pretty sure it's the ecu on the steering column is knackered. comes as one complete unit  5.0 supercharged autobiography

The transponder chip is needed to in the key, have you had it recut.

Also, I take it you're in park?

In park and same result with both keys.

Steering column and ecu sounds expensive...

Not sure if this is relevant. There is a linkage cable that causes issues with key if not operatiing correctly.

Thanks guys, the key's not stuck in the ignition, more that you can put it in, but not turn it.

I think the mechanism is sticking as I can hear a repeated whirring sound for a few seconds and if I time it right I can turn the steering wheel but still not the key though.

I'm wondering if it might be this (below), although it seems to be for the earlier car, is the steering column the same?

After some experimentation this morning I've discovered that if I time it right, between the whur-whuuuuur noise I can get the key to turn with a bit of pressure - about 50% of the time.

It feels like something is trying to move/release but not quite managing it.

Getting closer to drilling that hole I think.

There are several linked ECU's that the key communicates with and every one has to return the correct response.

Most good indies can check wiring and know which one to replace first on a trial and error basis.

Check codes see if you get a "Car lost communication with Dashboard" type code

PS: Doing a hard reset may clear the intermittent ECU fault and let you start the car.
