On the flip side of my last post, has anyone done, or brought a converted early model L322 with the 2012 conversion that regrets it?

I.e lots of rattles, bits not working or just bad fitting? Or even unrelated car just goes bang after?

Im 50/50 which way to go, early converted or later standard and would love to hear any niggles that come with it?

I guess due to our reputation we do get quite a few problem cars dropped in to repair/resolve issues... Some have needed almost the cost of the conversion spent on them to finish/repair them!

I guess in the real world you need to ask yourself A, who does the conversion? & check them out! B, "why has the conversion been done" is it hiding something?

With all trades there are good and bad... & don't forget the self/home converted (not saying all are bad) but some are carried out in the most appalling fashion. A well converted car IMHO adds value ,desirability and your personality

So, if looking to purchase a car already converted? Take your time, look past the nice shiny bits and dig down deep into the car doing your homework... If looking at converting your own FF then again, choose your company/converter wisely and through recommendation rather than cost... It never cease's to amaze me how many people go to those who are the cheapest! Saving maybe £100-£500 They are usually the people that, when you say "oh, its an 09 conversion" when you see the car "not the 2011.5 you asked us to quote for" say "is it?" in response... Do your homework, know exactly what you want before getting prices! & last but not least (very important IMHO) DONT spend everything you have converting your pride & joy! Leave yourself a contingency fund!

I am very happy with my 2007 to 2010 conversion and have not had any issues. I had to access the wiring to do some other work and found all the new joints were soldered connections with heat-shrink seals on each joint so looks like that's quite important for the integrity of the electrical joints. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

I bought a car which was already converted and touch wood it's been fine

I'd make sure you do the usual Full Fat checks plus look at the conversion in detail - does it look like the car left the factory that way? It should!
All lights should be working including fogs, the panels should all fit nicely. Also visually check the wiring under the bonnet to ensure it's neat and tidy I think it's a common sense approach if everything works as it should and the panels look to be fitted to a factory standard then I don't see any issues which would be encountered outwith the general Full Fat problems for that year of vehicle

As has been said, don't get caught up in the look of the shiny new bits and ignore a bad car

No regrets at all, brought the ff nov 12 for 9000, spent 4k inc wheels on facelift sold the old parts and wheels for 1k sold ff April 2014 for 10500. 18 months with a range rover only 1.5k depreciation if only all cars were this cheap to own. Insurance, tax, mot and fuel would have had to be spent on what ever car I had bought. Only fault in all my time of ownership was the alternator @ £350. Find a good body shop or use camtech for the facelift and you won't be disappointed. It's a great way to try ff ownership without the worry of massive depreciation remember FSH is a must and for what it's worth my 4.4v8 averaged 15mpg over the fuel I bought and the miles I covered, my 2009 navara auto only averaged 19.5! So not as expensive to run as I thought it would be. All the best with the new purchase.

You are replacing the headlights/bumper/other bits with factory parts designed to go on the vehicle. In contrast to other vehicle updates (such as MB and Audi) that would need different body parts - which make the conversion uneconomical so the original parts are cut, adapted and painted - this is all plug n play. The problem really is that people will spend GBP2000+ on parts and try to save on the last couple couple of hundred for the install.

If you are thinking of doing it yourself rather than purchasing a modified RR, you can avoid these probs by taking it to someone reputable to have the conversion done (such as Cam Tech Craig, above). Don't purchase the complete conversion off ebay by searching for "price and shipping lowest".

Am still torn. If a special one comes up already done then it will be a bonus. If not i will look to buy and then get converted at a later date. Although i do enjoy the task, i think money wise i would be better off leaving it and having it done properly as apossed to doing it myself

Will see what i end up buying first i guess.
