brake pad warning light on

The "check brake pads" warning light has come on, can anyone tell me roughly how long I've got, before it's down to the metal? The car is booked in to my Indy friday, for new pads all round, New rear callipers, sensors, and fluid change. Trying not to use the car to much, but my parents are coming over for a few days this week, and its the only car we have big enough to pick them up, and take them about in, bloody typical, always a problem when you really need the car!

Depends how much braking you do Razz

Brembo discs are actually cheaper than I expected - £59+VAT each from Dan

You will of course need a new sensor now, so better make sure the Indy has one of those too.

I would have thought a few days careful driving should be OK - a bit like driving with the fuel light on.......

If its the rears gone and you have a rear calliper issue then it could be just a few miles! I have seen the rears go from good pads to discs ruined in under a hundred miles!!! Shocked

Ya pays yer money.... Ya takes yer chance sir Bow down Whistle Thumbs Up

Craig is right, if the calipers are having the notorious stuck caliper issue your pads are gone in no time. Although you would notice this during driving I expect and check the wheels after a shortish drive from cold and if they or one are/is piping hot, you know the caliper is a problem.

At normal wear you should have no problem to reach the end of the week safely. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Cheers guys
Am replacing both callipers as a precaution anyway, it hopefully is just down to normal wear, they are a heavy old lump.
