If its the rears gone and you have a rear calliper issue then it could be just a few miles! I have seen the rears go from good pads to discs ruined in under a hundred miles!!!

Craig is right, if the calipers are having the notorious stuck caliper issue your pads are gone in no time. Although you would notice this during driving I expect and check the wheels after a shortish drive from cold and if they or one are/is piping hot, you know the caliper is a problem.
