5.0 S/C common issues?

Are there any common issues with the 5.0 S/C models I should be aware of?

Actually, I'm starting to believe that the fuel consumption is more of a feature Smile Range Rover SV Autobiography LWB 5.0 S/C -17

I believe the SC engines are virtually bulletproof (if maintained and used properly) and that is one of the reasons I decided on getting an SC iso a TDV8. Also the gearbox (I had a well documented problem with my 4.2 gearbox) is also the upgraded and uprated version so I expect nothing to go wrong with it (and man does it shift well).

In short I think that the only potential issues could be the normal MY 2010 stuff but nothing specifically related to the engine/gearbox. Does anyone of the renowned (notorious?) 5.0 SC club have any info ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I've had a few electronic problems (alarm going off for no reason, see separate post), FBH has never worked properly (see separate older post) and problems with DVD player which is now sorted.
But I still love the car, it's not perfect but perfection is boring (I think the same goes for women but that is another story! Smile ). Engine and gearbox pretty bulletproof I think.

I've heard nothing but praise for the 5.0 although I'm thinking of starting some rumours to try and bring the prices down!

@Eugene - Glad you're enjoying and I think this is relevant to the topic and gives the OP some useful benchmarking........does your 5.0 use more fuel than the 4.2 then? I was under the impression that the 5.0 is more efficient (although you are probably driving with a bit of passion!) 2006 4.2 SC

Rolling with laughter Good point! 10MPG, 12MPG, 15MPG.........Drive it gently and it you might get 16!

To put into perspective, my SC is still better on fuel that my 4.6 P38 was. You could get that into single figures without a problem! 2006 4.2 SC

I heard the fuel consumption of the 4.2 is generally higher than the 5.0. For me, I can't make a comparison as my 4.2 was driven in Nigerian traffic compared to the trip with the 5.0 in Europe with mostly highway driving. The 4.2 was thirsty and the few instances I did drive it on "normal" roads it did come down to "normal" figures.

About the alarm going off for no reason, that could be the age old bonnet switch problem. Had it on the 4.2 until I read the stories related to the bonnet switch. Have a look, you will find the solutions to that. I sprayed it with WD-40 and made sure it engaged properly / was seated properly.

DVD player, mine was missing and I found one on the web for the 4.2 and all worked fine. The 5.0 doesn't have RSE and I would never get one in the days of iPads and the likes. Tablets are just a much cheaper way of doing it , with a bigger screen, games etc. RSE can't beat a (set of) tablet(s) at any time.

As for the FBH, I believe they can be a bit temperamental(my car doesn't have one, nor would I need it here, although would have liked it during the Europe trip although seat and steering wheel heaters worked great as well on the cold mornings). Maybe you need to find an experienced FBH place (that does aftermarket installations) to sort it out. It could something simple that your current garage can't find due to lack of experience.

The 5.0 is a brilliant, brilliant car, so glad I got this one iso the TDV8. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I am just starting my 7th month of 5.0 SC ownership and have loved every single day of it. No faults to report apart from the bluetooth phone connection occasionally going AWOL. A re pairing sorts it for about 3-4 weeks at a time. Parking the car for short periods (minutes))seems to exacerbate the problem!

There is a 2010 5.0Sc Autobiography being advertised at my local LR dealers for £34k. It's black with full service history & 34.5k on the clock so prices have taken a bit of a dip recently. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!
