I think with regard to advisories, a lot depends upon the mood of the tester on the day. Banging Head

I had my (late departed) 110 TD5 defender MOT'd 3 years ago, and got an advisory for 'front brake pads worn and close to limit' Big Cry

Ordered a new set, when I came to fit them the ones that were on there were only 3mm less than the new ones (i.e hardly worn at all!!) Twisted Evil

The defender then went through 2 subsequent MOT's (with different advisories each time), but the front pads were never mentioned again, and it still had the same set on 50,000 miles later when I wrote it off on black ice (although they were getting to the point when they actually DID need replacing.

So, I wonder just how much credence we should give to 'advisories' - they seem to me to be a money making scam for some MOT stations Ner Ner 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

I always try to use the council MOT centres as they can't carry out work on non council vehicles, thus any advisories or failures are not done to promote unneeded work. Tom

My garage doesn't dish out advisories to profit from me as I do all my own work, I've been using them for MOTs for over 30 years now. Just the tester is a stickler for noting everything and letting me away with nothing, but I prefer it that way, at least I know he's being honest and the car is either fit for the road or not

We've just had ours MOT'd and it failed on something I didnt think was part of the MOT, front headlamp washers!

One of the wiper motors had seized which had stopped the washers working, and it seems now that if a car has headlamp washers fitted and linked to the windscreen wash, then they must be working for the MOT.

not sure but believe its something to do with xenon headlights and that they must have a washer of some type ,to do with heat build up behind the muck
