Unless using an optimate type charger that's on all the time and maintains the battery from what I was told it's always a good idea to disconnect the battery to give it a good full charge. The difference between theory and reality is that in theory it will work. |

Can I not just disconnect the negative terminal to charge the battery? |

Yep I would drop the pos of the battery then charge it in place. The difference between theory and reality is that in theory it will work. |

I left the trickle charger on over night then at lunchtime I connected my freshly charged jump starter and she fired up again, left the car running for 10 mins, then put back in trickle charge.
