What about a set of these? I'm not sure they would look right though!

3.0 liter or 3.6 liter engine is better in use?

Hello, everyone!
For beggining I am sorry for my english. This language is not my native.

I read all posts very carefully, but did not find an answer. I am interesting in RR L322 2006 year Vogue model. But I am not sure which diesel engine is better - 3.6L or 3.0L. There is opinion in my country that 3.6 liter engine is sensitive to fuel quallity, not reliable, very expensive in repair and etc.
I agree, power of 3.6 liter engine (271hp/200kW) is much better than 3.0 liter with 130kW .

My questions:
1) does there is more problems with 3.6 liter engine engine comparing with 3.0 one?
2) is a good idea to choose 2006 year model? Especialy with 3.6 liter engine.
3) has 3.6 liter engine in 2006 model more problems than in later RR (for example, 2007 year model)?
4) has 2006 year model "baby diseases" (like all new models)?

What else I soul expect, except better dinamics in drive?

Thank you for your answers!!!

TDV6 ?? are you referring to the new RR , as the old RR is not a v6

if you do mean the l322 then avoid the td6 because of the BMW gearbox, I hear nothing about failures and there are a few on here that have had 2, 3 or even 4 gearboxes in their TD6

Why could comment failures of turbos in 2006 year DV8 engines?
Does it happen often in 2006 year models?

Thank you for answers!

'02 - '05 3.0 TD6

Very strong engine (long as you look after it), but slow, unrefined, lack of power, gets beaten by average family hatchbacks off the lights Razz
Rather poor interior (compared to newer iterations).

Inside the time bracket for front diff issues, they should all have been swapped out for the newer part, but just make sure it's been changed.

Big issue is the gearbox. Awful, awful, awful. Make doubly sure of it's age, mileage, and if it's had fluid changes. If the age and mileage can't be verified, and it hasn't had oil change, leave it well alone.

'06 - '10 3.6 TDV8

Strong engine, though not as reliable as the TD6. Turbos and EGR valves the main issues, although again, look after it, and it'll look after you. Slightly thirstier, but c'mon, it's a V8! Very smooth, refined, quiet, powerful. IMO every Rangey needs a V8.

Interior is much nicer, get the touchscreen version ('07 onwards), if the '06 non-touch system goes wrong, it's more of a pain to fix as it's only about for one year.

Gearbox is leagues above the 3.0, six speed instead of five, and alot more durable, although again, make sure it's had a fluid change before 90,000 miles tops, if it hasn't, get it done!

I agree with the above.

BMW 3.0 TD6 is probably the strongest engine out of all of them......

..... its just linked to the weakest gearbox........

I've been put off a bit buying a 3.6 due to reported turbo issues, but there are plenty that have no issues with very happy owners.....

I'm sort of planning to skip the 3.6 TDV8 and get the 4.4 TDV8 in a few years. They will depreciate more than my 2003 car..... and has an 8 speed box.

I thought the 3.6 was a bit more economical than the 3.0 TD6 ?

If you want one, I'd buy a nice tidy cheap 3.6 then you can save a bit of cash incase a turbo goes......

The TD6 can be remapped to go a lot better, but it is fairly noisy......

Thumbs Up 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Forgot to say, if it was my money, I'd buy a TDV8, its just leagues above the TD6 IMO.

Money no object, I'd have a Supercharged petty too, but the petty has a serious drinking problem. Pettaholic Rolling with laughter

I don't know about the TD6 economy, never had one, but I woulda thought a V8 would drink more than a 6 cylinder..

When I firsty looked at FFRR's it was in 2005. I was so disappointed with the TD6 I bought a Disco 3. When the urge for a Rangey came again I bought a TDV8 3.6. They are world's apart, rempapped or not !

A mate of mine with a TD6 reports very similar MPG, solo and towing - in fact I usually get a touch more. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I hated the TD6 - I test drove one and immediately bought a 4.4 V8 petrol

My next one was a 3.6 TDV8 which IMHO was way better than the 4.4 petrol

I think they are worlds apart - if you like any sort of performance, want to accelerate up a hill, overtake a lorry on an A road etc, then you will hate the TD6.

There's absolutely no reason to buy a TD6 if you can afford a TDV8 Thumbs Up

I had the td6 engine in my 2004 5 series bmw, it wasn't amazing power in a car , ok tho.

for the 4 years I had it , it cost me a fortune. All six injectors failed , one at a time over a year. the turbo went , I had nothing but EGR issues through out the 4 years, the car continuely smoked and left large clouds of black smoke on hard acceleration, both fuel pumps failed , one costing me £500. various oil leaks ect. The car itself was fantastic but THAT ENGINE .... never again . only got 24mpg ...in a car !! I get more than that out of my TDv8 rangie .
