Would you really trust a courier with it lol! if they can lose a laptop imagine them losing that bad boy and finding it had been weighed in somewhere or ended up on fleabay!!

I'd ideally find a flooded one but the chances of finding a flooded LHD one for near the price of a shell is not likely. It would give you a spare car though lol FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

The problem with an older shell like this £500 one is that it comes with a V5 stating its 2002 so suddenly your 2012 MY is a 2002 MY Shocked

Get a new shell from DAn....

Have you checked with the DVLA, what cat is your damaged car? If its a CAT C you need a VIC check which is to confirm its identity. before they will issue a V5C. If you are doing a body change I would ensure that you have all the docs in place otherwise you could be looking at a Q plate.

The poster is Swiss so surely everything about V5 VIC checks a,nd insurance categories, Q plates need forgetting, I think The new shell price is a bargain personally but as already said a flood damaged one would be a lovely find.

The only way the flood damaged one is worth it is if price isn't that much more than a new shell so that when its stripped out a good bit of money can be recouped from the parts.

BUT IMO from what I've seen even flood damaged ones go for more money than you'd think.
If its just the shell it would need to be well under £1k to be worth thinking about as it will end up giving the vehicle an older age and wouldn't tie up properly in the future as the LR system will show the VIN as being from a 3.6 and the reality would be a 4.4 FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

IMO the bodyshell has nothing to do with the cars age. If you buy a shell today that was manufactured 3 years ago and has been unused in stock someplace and shell a damaged car tomorrow that was registered last week and covered 50 miles is your car suddenly 3 years old? The shell is one component of a car just that a component, a big one yes but just that. I have shelled cars before using new and second hand shells the cars age does not change because that is the day it was registered. If a car is classed category B or a breaker by an insurance company a bodyshell can be sold by the breaker but will nearly always have the VIN removed before sale, this is to stop the vehicle ending up back on the road but the shell could be used with no proof of age to repair a car. Its quite a minefield, back in 83-84 we were actually registering vehicles on new Y and A prefix and stated on the logbook was BUILT FROM NEW AND USED PARTS. That was one of the reasons for the Q prefix in 1985 as this loophole was open to massive age fraud as you can imagine. as you can see I have been around salvage a long time thought this may be of interest to others.

The shell is the BIGGEST part of the car so is used as the basis for it in most circumstances.

If you cant prove the age of the engine or the chassis/body then you get a Q plate assigned to your vehicle. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Have to check with DVLA but as long as the engine was new i wouldn't see any problem with it Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Can you imagine the vehicle fraud involved in that 3k shell 4-5k engine and off you go 90=100k registration ! like I say I have shelled many cars over a long period of time a lot were insurance and the vehicle REG remains the same in all but extreme cases.

How would it be fraud?
If the engine is rebuilt and put in a new shell you'll end up putting new front and rear bumpers and lights on for the facelift but if for example it had a 3.6, 4.4(petrol) or 3.0 engine in it would be row try obvious it wasn't the same as a brand new vehicle. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Please don't be insulted as this is not meant to be but if you honestly believe that every person who buys a RR knows about engine sizes and could identify the year of a vehicle without looking at the plate you are living in a very rose tinted world Believe me if you could get a newer plate so easily there would be widespread fraud. Maybe the motor trade has made me lets say aware. There are a lot of very unscrupulous people involved in the trade that's without the criminal world. I would love to think you were right and I was wrong but you can only go from what you have seen, people do strange things for money. Anyways I was just trying share some experience, Lets hope the guy gets sorted and saves a fatty from the grave.
