Is my FFRR trying to talk to me?

After purchasing a couple of new iPhone4s I have been setting them up to my home wireless connection etc...

When connecting the iPhone to the Wi-Fi at home, on the screen - included in the list of available Networks (my standard home connection and my those of my neighbours) - is RAROTONGA which must mean my car sat on the drive outside (RangeRoverTonga Green)?

Despite having these new fangled phones - I am not in the least bit techno minded - so what does this mean I can do with it? - is my pride and joy trying to talk to me?

Question Neutral

I have the same network listing (RAROTONGA) available on my laptop Wi- Fi connection options also?

Is it for a Bluetooth connection ? ( Whistle not that I have the slightest idea how that all works either! )

daveo - you appear to be this sites leading techno expert - any suggestions you could offer to help me?...please Thumbs Up

The phone would not pick up the car unless the key was in the ignition and at position 2.

The blue tooth connection to all Land Rovers is just called Land Rover, which you may be able to change in your phone's settings to Range Rover - I can't see how to do this on the iPhone though. Discovery 4 HSE

Could it be because after using the car you have not moved the phone very far from it?

When I park at work and switch off, my phone does not disconnect until I get into the office about 20m away.
Then I get the beep to tell me it's disconnected.

Thanks for your responses daveo and RRUK (Edit - and Fox)

Rolling Eyes even more flummoxed as to what signal it is picking up Question

Regarding the ignition position - the car is locked and the key is in my pocket (so to speak).

I have never set up or used the bluetooth equipment on the car before - using this phone or any other phone...

I am this vehicles second owner.

Using the iPhone, or laptop - if I select RAROTONGA on the list, it requests a password (which I do not know ?)

Curiouser and curiouser...

If it isn't a bluetooth thingy - could it maybe be a tracking device of one kind or another from the previous registered keeper (LandRoverUK)?

It is obviously picking up a Wi-Fi signal of one kind or another as RAROTONGA shows a reasonable signal strength

Shocked AM I BEING WATCHED!!!

I had my honeymoon in Rarotonga, a beautiful island in the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.

I know that doesn't help but that might be where the name comes from?

The code is 2121 try it....... Thumbs Up

Previous owner called connection RAROTONGA and phone picked this up when you were in car with ignition on even though you did not connect your phone has listed it.

Next time your in car try the 2121 code to connect then set phone setting to connect automatically and to "Trust" the RAROTONGA connection....

Easy Very Happy

Oh and you can connect when the car is off mine often does when the phone rings near the parked car! Very annoying.

Sad No such luck Gazellio - the 'Password' on the iPhone screen needs to be 8 characters before the JOIN button turns blue and submits the code - message comes back - Unable to join the network "RAROTONGA" - Dismiss
(tried 21212121 but that don't work either)

Where does this suggestion of yours originate from? - how would you know what the code was likely to be? - What do you know that i don't ? Confused

ALL LAND ROVERS use the 2121 code to connect a handset via the Bluetooth Module.

You are trying to connect to Bluetooth using the WIFI connect tools on you Iphone.

You need to navigate to BLUETOOTH then try to connect with the car using 2121.

No idea why you WIFI search is picking up that RARATONGA connection.

If its a wifi connection it is picking up then its NOT the car! Someone close by must have a wifi SSID of Rarotonga.

The password you are looking for is the WEP key. If you have a laptop with wireless try sniffing for wireless networks and see if it pops up there too. Discovery 4 HSE
