I have only tested the reserve tank range once - when I first got the car. The fuel reserve light was on but I kept my eye on the on board computer and I kept going.... The car suddenly came to a stop even though the computer still showed a range of 35km!! Not very accurate is my conclusion! '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey

When i set off from my house on Friday, the Range was -- . Had no problems the few miles to the petrol station, but i didn't brim it. Next time i play the fuel lottery, i'll brim it to find out. Our local petrol station has a max delivery of 95L though. |

So does mine, well that or 99 litres, but once they get used to you filling it up all the time it can be overridden by the staff. I did once put £50 in and they asked why I didn't fill it up. |

I just fill mine up when light comes on, which is abour 3 gallons and 54 miles to go. I couldn't risk running it until 0!

I've pushed 100 litres into my TDV8 and the bill was £119.90. Range was still showing 25 miles or something like that. Never seen the range at zero even though I'm usually tempted to play the fuel light lotto. Most pumps won't go past £99.90 (ish) or 100ltrs on some types, but the most modern ones will happily sail through this as they have a five digit £ display. Not many of them about yet but they will be appearing everywhere eventually. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

When I said that I'd pushed 100 litres in, that is of course exactly what I meant.

Whilst I never fill until the light comes on, I am too nervous to push for real fuel light lottery. I have also been told that running the tank very empty is bad as it encourages all the dregs to be sucked into the fuel filter. Sounds like BS to me (the fuel feed will be from one of the lowest points in the tank) but I did have a big problem on one of my first Astons as the fuel pumps were very susceptible to damage. |

I only do it as when the light comes on I can only get about 80 litres in. So I know I can go a bit lower...

No, --- I take as 0. It does show right down to 1 though sometimes. Other times it jumps from 4 or 8 to ---. |

It's not a good idea to let the tank run dry, if you do the fuel lines and filters pick up all the crap from the bottom of the tank. I've also read that it can damage the CAT when you run out of fuel. |

Agreed. But at range 0 it has 10% still left in the tank.
