wasn't there a Top Gear clip of the 0 - 100mph - 0 race between the 4.2 and the 5.0? iirc the 5.0 hit the ton and braked to a total standstill in half the distance of the 4.2 can't find the clip on youtube |

If it was me I would be buying a good 3.6 TDV8 for that money. You can get a well looked after one and then have it for a year or two and not lose so much money on it, and also gives you the money to spend on the normal servicing.

The early 4.2's to me represent extremely good value for money.

I'm just reiterating what others have said, and also from personal experience.

If it were my money I would go with the 4.4 8speed all day long |

I did and thoroughly recommend it, the 4.4 V8 Diesel will leave most cars standing, and as many have described it the power delivery is like a plane taking off - no hesitation all the way through the rev range due to the massive torque.
