FBH fixed

Following the troubles I've had regarding my FBH, I decided to investigate further. To start with I had the park heating activated so I could use the timer to come on when required. The fan would run but no smoke and heat from the burner. So with a bit of investigating, searching the forums, I came to the conclusion I needed the IID tool.
Plugged in the tool and got the message 0002 glow plug flame detector short circuit to ground
41Park heater message disturbance fault

I read on the forum about someone else (Aurrian) having the same error code coming up. I knew I had to remove the fbh unit to see what was going on. I undid the wheel arches, and there it was !,, undid the screws and hoses and out it popped..
Started to strip the unit down, had to check all the bits were working, fan worked ok, pump worked ok, glow plug was fine. Had to send the PCB off to France, to a bloke called French Mike who I contacted through the MG forum. He's a expert in these things and tests and repairs the PCB's.
So off to France it went. After a couple of days he emailed me and said he found,

One fault recorded (glow plug flame metering).
Two resistors out of range replaced.

Received it back a couple of days later. Put the unit back together, cleaned it up a bit and back onto the car. Connected the pipes and plugs, topped up the coolant and checked for leeks. No leeks so good news there. Put the key in and pre heater came on the dash, then started the engine. First thing I heard was the pump kicking in from the rear. It's a noise I hadn't heard before so that was positive. Next I went to the screen on the timer and that was still available. Good news. Only problem was the temp was around 10/11 deg so wasn't sure weather the fbh was going to come on !!! Checked the IID tool for faults and nothing, good news again !!
Well last night the temp dropped to around 4 deg, so thought now's the time.!
From inside the house I pressed the on button on the FBH remote, red light flashed. Waited a couple of mins, still flashing red, waited another 5mins, still flashing red. Waited another 5 mins before going outside to check to see if this bad boy was working. Got to the car and could hear the FBH running, opened the door and you guessed it, it works, warm air, windscreen cleared, sorted, job done.
To be honest I wasn't sure weather it would work or not but I'm pretty chuffed with it now and I reckon it's just in time for the cold snap...

just needs to go back into this space and away we go.

If anyone needs the info on French Mike, I have his info. Not sure if the admins will let me put it on here ????

I've got the same problem and seen French Mikes post - purchased the resistors to do the fix myself (already replaced glow plug)

Just waiting for some free time to sort it.

Awesome Thumbs Up

I love my FBH, so useful Very Happy

I'm considering doing the mobile phone mod so I can dial up some heat from my work place as its parked too far away for the remote fob to operate it.

Mine started working again today. Went out early to work and the car was set for a 7.30 start in the program
I went out about 7.45 and the car was toasty. It must have been the bttery was too low for it to work. If thats possible. Question

I did go for a run in the car yesterday and put a good charge back in it. Question

Steve - Info here:-

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=53896

I understand the white anti-vibration compound has been found to be corrosive to the resistors and eventually kills those it is in contact with.

Apparently hundreds of FBH's have been scrapped due to this issue

hi
well done on the FBH repair

i have a slight issue with mine and wondered if some light could be shed before i attempt open heart surgery on it

has anyone got a FBH on a 4.4 v8 enabled as park heater

mine starts and runs fine for the 30 mins as it should , defrosts the screen when really cold, but cab never gets toasty as advertised.
the unit itself gets hot (you can still hold your hand on it )but not as hot as i think it should, hoses always feel cool to touch.
checked on my hawkeye no faults show but water temp never gets above 39 deg, even if i run the FBH 2 or 3 times (hour to hour and a half).
i can run the FBH after engine has run up to temp and then it keeps water temp hot and automatically changes vent from screen to cab vents, and only then the cab is toasty

so question is =
on a 4.4 v8 should the FBH get the cab toasty from cold within the 30 mins run time or is mine working as it should and im asking to much from it

thanks in advance nige
