Checking gearbox on used TD6

Hi,

going to check out an L322 Vogue TD6 and wanted one that had already had a new box in - believe that's better than one that maybe has one on its way out?

Have been told the one I'm goig to see now has a recon box in but he cannot find the receipt. Is there any way in which I can check it's not the original one in visually? He said it still has the stickers on it etc but as I'm new to RR's would prefer your advice on here Smile

Is there a prescribed method for checking the gearbox is ok? Can you check the ATF for colour and smell (guess it should be unburnt and cherry red??) or am I not able to do that?

Thanks guys

Ask where it was reconditioned at and call them ask if they have a record.

Smile

I did think of that but unfortunately the work was paid for by previous owner to the current one and at some point the receipt has gone AWOL. It was sold from Blackburn and have looked at transmission places in the locality and there's quite a few.

Any other way of checking?

Crawl under it and look if it has a reconditioned by ...... Sticker on it.
Really without the receipt or memory of what garage did the work you're fishing.
If what the current owner is saying is true he should know roughly what mileage the gearbox was replaced at you could check the mot records for a mileage that matches as close to possible as what he said and you know probably what year it was refurbished. But it's an awful lot of work for something silly like losing a receipt.
Good luck. Bushy
