Auto dimming mirrors - fault

I have a problem with the auto dimming mirrors:-

With h/lamps on at night, the slightest light send the mirrors to darkness. If I hold my thumb over the sensor on the r/v mirror they come back to life.

Does anyone know if the sensor is replaceable in the r/v mirror, or if adjustment is possible?

Think it comes as part of the mirror and is non adjustable - how about making a sticky 'opaque mask' to go over the sensor to dim the light hitting it?
