I understand the SWMBO bit!

Remarkable how quickly and cheaply you can be driving out of memmingen or similar though....

MUCH cheaper than driving there. I am about to fly there myself (flight an hour or so) and pick up a brand new car for a week for less than the fuel and chunnel cost....

No brainer I reckon.

but one of the pleasures of driving to a far flung place is driving there in the FF, with your redbull in the drinks holder, the envious looks of other drivers , what more in life is there... Laughing .. ... - .- -.

I'd rather walk than take Ryanair.

But you have no idea what you'll eventually pay. You'll think the price will be 24p but in the end you'll pay £2896, just because you'd like to bring a change of clothes, pay by a card they don't like, and would like to use the toilet.

I'd just rather pay a bit more and travel by a civilised airline like Swiss.

Well I disagrree for SHORT HOP 1 hour flights I do not need to get comfortable.(It takes longer for the coffee to cool down)
I pay £40 turn up 30 min before flight get on - get off pick up brand new car and at my destination in Austria 1 hour later....

All for less than £200 including fuel and under three hours door to door.

Any longer distances I fly business.... Whistle Laughing

If you want to travel LIGHT - FAST - CHEAP on VERY SHORT routes then the economics of Ryanair & Easyjet simply add up. Especially if you choose unpopular airports like Memmingen close to your destination and hire a car.

Feel free to pay more though Thumbs Up

Easyjet are ok, Ryanair - how do you know you're paying more if you have no transparency on cost? Hateful airline who will never get my money.

Road trips are great though - especially if you structure them so you're not spending too long in the car. Stop on the way at some nice hotels.

Could have flown to Lamoge airport for our summer brake hired a car and saved a few quid... But to have the FF down there for the ten days was much better than a Fiat Panda or alike Big Cry
The drive down and back was beautiful staying in some lovely locations... And very little stress Thumbs Up
