2006 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Cairns Blue

Strange transmission noise

I have a 06 MY 4.4 V8 and just recently I have noticed a hollow blowing noise at 2250 RPM. I have tried setting this RPM with the car in neutral and the noise isn't there. It only appears with the car in D, S or manual and when the engine is under load at a mid throttle position.

I know a V8 does have a throaty noise to it but this noise seems louder and hollow, almost like it echos around the cabin. This is accompanied by a slight vibration through the side of the driver footwell and foot rest. It only appears at 2250 RPM and disappears when the engine either accelerates or decelerates past this figure.

The car has now covered 130k and is due to have the transmission fluid changed at 150k. Has anybody else got any experience of this and if so what did you do to remedy it.

Have you had the fluid changed previously? If not, I'd get someone to have a look at it and give serious consideration to getting the fluid changed now. I was advised by my specialist to have the transmission fluid changed every Inspection II as although the gearbox is "sealed for life", that life is somewhat shorter if you don't.

Mine doesn't have the mileage of yours (55k) but it can't hurt for someone to take a look even if it's to tell you there's nothing wrong. New gearboxes aren't cheap. 2021 3.0 P400 Vogue
