re image number 4 during darkness, you wont actually be driving around like that ,you'll have dipped beams on which will engulf the drls, [unless they switch off when headlights on].....

day/dusk pics would be better Wink ... - .- -.

Images of my previous FFRR TD6 Vogue SE, the LED halos cost £53 all in including DRL relays for both headlights & about 21/2 hours work each side. Passed MOT no problem.

Yep all straight forward hardest part is making sure you don't bake the lights too long in the oven .I did not use relays but tapped into sidelights. Thumbs Up I would go with the above option Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

We use an AGA, some exact temperature control was not an option. Used a heat gun instead and that worked okay. Suspect doing as Googsy did using an oven would be quicker, potentially less messy.

I managed to leave two small bits off stripped wire insulation in the drivers side lamp....oops Embarassed Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

@B9er - That looks very good on your previous car too.

Are you able to say where you get your parts from please, your description sounds very straightforward (from previous threads the impression I got was that people were sourcing the same but different parts from the internet)?

Did you also change all of the headlight unit bulbs for a 'white look' as opposed to yellow?

How do the halo's work, do you have a separate DRL switch (if so, where is the switch and does it involve butchering the dash)?

Can this be reversed 'easily' to change back to stock @ a later time?

Thanks... Thumbs Up

I sourced directly from China, will try and dig out the old invoice to identify the company. I bought all the halos, 2 of each size, from the one company to ensure uniformity of brightness, colour etc. The relays I mounted and spliced into the existing wiring inside each headlight and configured to come on with the ignition & extinguish when the headlights were turned on. I changed my sidelight bulbs to matching colour LEDS. No separate switch is required with this setup and it is completely legal, resulting in ignition on - Halos on, Sidelights on - Halos on, Side & front fogs - halos on, headlights & sidelights - halos off. Main beam - halos off.

The wiring of the car remained untouched, apart from the DRL relays contained entirely inside the headlights. I did this so if headlights need replacing, say due to an accident, then there is no additional or modified wiring for the repairer to contend with. Just plug in a standard headlight and it will work as the factory intended. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

Can't find invoice as it was well over a year ago that I did this mod. From memory the company was called something like hnb.com or hnbshop.com? Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

Thanks for all of the very helpful replies to date:

I've today had some interesting and helpful dialogue with the people who do 2006 - 2009 conversions as per Image 4. Their responses have been professional and confident about the quality of their work, as summarised/paraphrased:

"
We could change the orange reflective strip to white and the best way we have found would be to use some 3M white/ silver reflective tape with adhesive backing. This would simply cover your existing orange reflector. Simple and effective.

We have 26 years experience in lighting design and manufacture... you can be guaranteed to receive a professional finish to your headlights without compromise.

... The ringed lights also remain illuminated at night when driving with the normal headlights on, although you could add a relay that switches the lights off when your main headlights are switched on...

... The LED are wired so that when you put your key in the ignition the LED come on, and when you turn the ignition off the LED’s have a delay and will switch off in approx. 4-6 seconds...

... (What happens if any of the ringed lights 'fail' once fitted, how are they repaired?) We stringently test the LED’s for a period of 24 hours once we have converted the headlights. If there are any problems we normally find them within the first couple of seconds of testing. The LED’s have a lifespan of 50,0000 hours (equivalent of 17.5 years if you run them 8 hours a day). We have performed 64 headlight conversions over the past two years and not had one failure to date...

... This headlight modification can be fully reversed later revert if required by you...

... We guarantee the modification work we perform for a period of 12 months...

... You can supply your own bi xenon adaptive headlight unit to be modified without loss of functionality instead of buying 'off the shelf' already converted headlight units...

... (Are you able to add ringed lights with the same amount of lights within the ring as original LR lights, for example there are 10 on the main ring?) YES. We provisionally drill each hole for the amount of LED’s required... "

So, here is a reminder of the CTC image of a 'proper' 2010MY headlight unit compared with this firm's conversion that was OP pictured and what they're saying is that they can effectively add more lights in an effort to more closely replicate. Plus they will deal with the orange strip, giving the clear/ white look.

Any thoughts on this firm's work?

Thanks

That's the kind of response that would make me buy from them. Confident, helpful, factual. Not pushy or arrogant.

The cost of £560 seems good for a 'plug and play' system.

So, to retain your bi-Xenon 'lamps, you'd need to remove your existing units and send them away. Or do they offer fitting.

What's the timescales if you removed them? Allow a day for delivery. 2-3 days for fitting and testing and a day for despatch. So about a working week or so?

How 'easy' is fitting? That's headlamp removal, wiring and re-fitting? Do they provide instructions or is this solely down to you? Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

@Bellini -

Removal, postage & fitting - Generally, you remove your own headlight unit, post it to them for the conversion and they return the units to you via UPS @ £14 (I think they are actually based in Yorkshire).

Timescales to convert & return - 2 days

How easy is fitting - my understanding is that your slide out your existing units and slide them back in (plug & play) upon return/ no wiring by you necessary.

I'm going to get back on to them today so any other questions I can put to them Thumbs Up

re fitting, put some thin cardboard or heavy duty paper on the bumper where the headlight is, its easy to scratch it as you wiggle the headlight out..
to take the headlight out, first take the grill off remembering to disconnect the temp sensor behind the LR badge,
then undo the 2 top screws , then undo the bottom [grill side] screw but be very careful that you dont drop the screw down behind the bumper...pull light unit forward onto the bumper and disconnect the single plug at rear of unit.. ... - .- -.
