Stupid beeping... why are you so unclear?

Collected the RR from Saxtons the other day, and very excited indeed. Spent about an hour going over the car before parting with the readies, and had a few little niggles sorted (rear cigarette lighter not working, one handle cover needed replacing to my mind, new cup holder - just minor bits).

Really happy with the car, and I'll post up something longer about the final purchasing experience from Saxton's shortly.

In the meantime, before I drop the car into Land Rover - could anyone help with two minor annoyances?

When starting the car up, five distinct beeps come from the back (a lower, less sophisticated tone than the rear parking sensor noise). I have no idea what this is...

After reversing up to something and the rear sensors going to solid tone, when I put the car into Park from Reverse, the parking tone continues. It's really annoying... but stops when the engine is turned off obviously.

I've searched online, and read the manuals - but can’t find anything diagnosing this beeping (the manual has some simple explanation about beeps when unlocking the car, but this is when I start it)

Cheers lads,

Rowly

5 beeps sounds like a tracker device. It's in the right place for one too. These are normally removed if you have not been supplied with the details or tag......

Parking sensors on your MY do what they do - on the 2010 they silence when you move to P. Not sure there's anything you can do barring pressing the parknnig sensor button to shut it up on yours - BUT that then keeps the sensors OFF until you switch them back on OR cycle the ignition. On the 2010 they come back on when you go into reverse - so obviosuly some feedback has made it to LR Thumbs Up Land Rover Addict

Thats super helpful - I was given two tracker-style tags (smaller but fatter than a credit card) but no documents with it. There was a telephone number on them, which I was tempted to call.

Original bill of sale had over a grand for a Navtrak thing - assume its this.

So would keeping the credit card on me stop the beeping?

I assume it's not running, as shock troopers didnt dragged me out of the window...

hi mate, its a cobra navtrac tracker, i had this on my car for a while but had 3 beeps until i threw away what i thought was a garage tag, small rectangle black plastic pad, then i got the 5 beeps. you can contact them and they will reconnect it and supply new tags, its around £260 a year for the full package, they will phone you if the car is moved with out the present of the tag in the car...

I went through the same emotions as you a few weeks ago - Call Cobra, give them your reg and they will confirm it is a tracker. You can pay to have it re-enabled and the five beeps will reduce to three but not switch off.

The annual fee is a couple of hundred pounds but they do provide an excellent service. I've nipped out a couple of times without my wallet and they've politely called my mobile before I get to the end of the road...

Rowly,

One of the things you'll find is that the car will have it's own way of doing things, on my TD6 the parking sensors at the rear played up for a while, continuous beeps etc, multiple beeps and then for a while they would beep and then drift off even after the engine was off and key out. No one ever found any problems but they just fixed themselves.

The TDV8 is also doing some odd things like telling me the rear number plate light is gone, shame that the TPMS is not a gremlin that will go away!

If it has a Navtrak then it will beep a few times if it has not been able to locate the ADR tag (credit card transponder). If the system was live and had a subscription then at that point NavTrak would recieve a text message from the car and they would in turn contact the customer.

Try putting the cards in the car next time you start it as it will indicate as to whether they are still working. At launch NavTrak was the only approved system therefore all our demo's had them fitted. We used to get the occasional problem with the batteries goinf flat in the ADR, but then NavTrak used to send out replacements FOC providing the car had a subscription.

From memory I think they will need to inspect the installation before they will approve the subscription is 12 months has elapsed, however they used to come to your home/work to do this.

There was also an add-on which you could have which was called NavTrak Webwatch where you could see where the car was on a MultiMap type interface, which would also give you the speed etc. This was something that you could log on to a PC.

It mav be worth seeing what it would cost to have it reinstated and if they would supply new ARD cards FOC as it could help with your insurance and/or excess?

With regard to the PDC I would suggest a hard reset possibly by disconnecting the battery for 30 mins and reconnecting, and this sorts out most gremlins on early L322's.

Thrasher - Just read it properly, yes you're quite right! I guess it assumes you are still manouvering.

Thanks to any and all for the fast replies - forums like these are just fantastic help for new owners.

Other than those wayward beeps, the car is performing faultlessly, and once I pop into the Lookers in Park Royal (who are just around the corner from the office) to hopefully help me fix my iphone/call dropping/bluetooth issue I think I'm happy.

The only sad thing is that my car is pretty much identical to Hammonds, so May and I are hatching a plan to vinyl wrap mine in a pretty cool, but unusual colour - I'll keep you updated.

Top Gear Bloke,

I had an iPhone bluetooth issue that was only resolved after I replaced the bluetooth module. It is a exchange part but only cost £167 and 2 minutes of my time to fit. It works faultlessly now with no dropped calls and bluetooth phonebook sync. I really wouldn't bother with the software update option as I had the same experience as so many others - it just doesn't work...

Also just for your note the Land Rover Compatibility guide only covers iPhone OS 3.1.2, but I can confirm that 3.1.3 and all beta versions of OS 4 are fully compatible.

Hope this saves you some money.

Cheers

Steve

Aaah! I was slow here, so I'm guessing Rowly is Christopher R. from the Top Gear mag that I read, never actually made the connection for some reason until you mentioned Hammond. Very Happy (Mags great by the way, have subscribed for several years now). Steve
