EGR blanking

Hi

I'm thinking of blanking off the EGR because I have read it will improve performance but will I need the iid tool to program it or will I need something else.

Thanks 2010 tdv8 vogue se, Buckingham Blue

If your EGRs are working OK, there should be no performance benefit - just piece of mind that if the EGRs break up, the bits won't get digested by the engine via the intake system.

PS Should have had said I have blanked our 2006 3.6 TDV8 after a mate had his 3,6 engine wrecked when 1 of the EGR valve heads broke up & were ingested by the engine ! Paul,

Blank them with a £30 kit. Some engines throw up a fault light, some don’t.
IID is useful for all sorts of reasons including have the engine fault light mapped out. Bell Auto Services can supply the IID and the map.

Do these have the swirl flaps ? I've heard they can also detach and merrily continue to engine causing issues ...

If yours is a 3.6 then go ahead, blank off the EGR.

If it's a 4.4 then don't as the DPF uses the EGR cooling after a regen.

Dunc. The life you have is the only one you'll get; make the most of it.

3.6 = blank it off with a £30 ebay kit then remap it for some more poke.
Change all turbo hoses for silicone ones. 3.6 is known for weak hoses that can breakdown internally and then get sucked into intake. Not good. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

booked in for preliminary check tomorrow, remap stage 1, egr delete and cap, gearbox remap... i see from receipts it had turbo hoses changed last year, but i will get them to have a look whilst in there...

im lucky this one has had two new turbos , so hopefully the remap wont put too much extra pressure on them, but it wont be to drive it like its stolen anyway, just fancy a wee bit more poke, and less lag , not that there's a lot, just a tad on pulling away

Mine has had the egrs blanked and a remap. The comment from an expert ‘... You won’t get any less smoke than that with th egrs blanked’ would have put me off if I heard it before making a decision. I’d be interested to know how smokey it is under acceleration. All the best hope it goes well.

I've got a mobile mapper coming over at 9am he uses maps from elite remaps , I've bought the blanking plates but he says you don't necessarily need them as valves are shut off and disabled

I'd do the blanks anyway. I'd trust a physical blanking plate over a mapped one all day long. Putting the blank plate in after the map should be OK. The ones where the the link pipe is removed and the ports blanked appear to be the "best" as they are a 100% sure way of stopping crap getting ingested Big Cry

Also, change engine oil and filter once between annual services. Best way to keep engine clean and preserve turbos Bow down Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
