TD6 -No (well, ok, low) power when first started

Ever since I've had this car its been slow off the mark in the morning. Put it in drive and its doesnt seem to have any go, at least for a couple of minutes, there doesnt seem to be any boost from the turbo and then off she goes. All is normal.
That is until Friday. Rangie had been parked up for a couple of weeks, cold weather here in the antips, same slow to start but she didnt get her boost back. So a whole day with stops and a rest in the middle for 3 hours and still the same. 100km odd driving in total.

I've owned this car for 4 years and in that time it has had a new Turbo and a fully rebuilt box with all the latest valves etc, that was only 5000 miles ago. Hardly going to be the gearbox or turbo itself I think.

Perhaps something in the boost management side? I dont know what as I've been unable to find out much info about how that all works. My thinking is that a pipe maybe leaking and sealing or an actuator rod is stuck somewhere ..

Anybody with any experience of how this system works?
cheers
James

Sounds like a leak in the high pressure system between turbo and engine inlet manifold. I have had similar problems, now fixed by replacing intercooler. There was very little power at startup much of the time; also occasionally at high engine load, for example when towing uphill at high speed. In my case, it was clear once I got the old intercooler out that it had expanded (popped?) and wasn't holding any sort of air pressure. Biggest give-away symptom of this leak was an oil leak at the front of the engine below the radiator, dripping off the electric fan shroud. Others have heard a whilsting sound with engine revs at c.2000rpm but I think mine had failed so badly it didn't do this!

Replacing the intercooler is a Censored of a job: access is pretty restricted. Details in this thread: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic20343.html

Of course, it could be that the leak is somewhere else in the system which might be easier to fix, a pipe leaking perhaps or possibly a clip having popped off. The metal part of the pipe from intercooler to inlet manifold on mine had rubbed against rubber hose on mine; I can believe this might wear through in extereme cases and would cause these symptoms. The intermittent problems, though, are reminiscent of my issues. Since replacing my intercooler last weekend, I have solved this problem and the car feels completely different - much more power than before.

Personally, I'd be taking the engine undertray off to get to see what's going on, closely followed by taking off the front bumper to have a good look at the intercooler.

Pray it's not the turbo itself; that way lies significant $ or £.

Good luck!
