Who else is in the CTEK owners club then??

Purchased one at the weekend as I have a few batteries building up from cars now and want to get them in decent nick rather than recycling them and with my FF battery being drained totally at the moment want to see if it can be saved as well.

I plumped for an MXS 5.0 as it can handle upto 110ah which would be the biggest battery I'd put in the FF and with buying and restoring some cars at the moment i thought that if one comes in with a duff battery i can swap it straight out for one that's already been reconditioned instead of wasting money on a new battery straight away. I know not all batteries can be saved but if it even saves 2 out of 4 it will have earned its keep IMO and be better for the environment long term.

One this current 70ah diesel battery is done tomorrow i'll try the FF battery on it and see what it can do to it as i know its dead so am budgeting to replace it as part of getting it on the road but if it gets it by for a bit then its good stuff Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I Have the 7.0 . Its by far my fav charger. It has also survived a bath in acid (paint did not) after an incident. I like to top up the battery on tha rangey each month (which you can do with the battery left connected) and take the battery out and give it a full recon cycle before the winter (check electrolyte terminals ect aslo).

i wouldnt buy antother make now. Thumbs Up

I've gone down the optimate route myself. It's a requirement when you have three bikes that are not really used over winter, and two cars, one of which is often left for a few weeks.

With the bikes I've wired up the connector to the battery so it's a simple plug in without having to get access to the battery.

Why oh why did they stop putting the battery cable connectors in the engine bay. They are/were so handy!

Gaz i Believe you can retrofit it as its just a cable with some insulator rings on each side and a small hole cut in the bulk head which may even still be there knowing LR but possibly wanted to sav the 50p on the cost of the copper cable... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I am sure you can retrofit but just having them there would make more sense.

With the FF i'll refit the battery and easy on eyelets to keep it alive longer if it can bring life back into the battery and the anderson connectors are good and something i have thought about before Smile

The other option i have is making up a Towing socket connector and using that as the FF backs onto the garage i have now anyway it would make a nice short run of cable Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I have 5 different CTEK units of various outputs, some are left on most of the year keeping batteries in tip top condition. Great bit of kit

I found some old trailer connectors in the garage so ordered a Ctek lead for £3 off the bay as its only going to get cut up so can i make one as i need it to be about 2metres long ideally but thats the project for the next few nights when i get time Smile

In other news it has brought some life back into the dead RR battery so it finished its recon yesterday and has been left standing to see how much it discharges. Fingers crossed its semi decent as i'll wanting to fit a second battery anyway Smile

I did think about using the Ctek lead to crimp on to the battery directly but that would still mean popping the bonnet to hook it up, where as the caravan socket can just be left outside my garage and plugged into the RR as needed. Ideally when its cold and i want to run the ark heat as the 5 amp rate and second battery i want to install should help a bit Smile

Thanks guys, i will keep this updated!

also done 2 smaller batteries one from the saab and the other from the pug and its brought them well upto scratch over a 24hr period so they are stored somewhere they wont get cold shocked if it turns cold quickly and i can easily hook them back up so thats £60 worth of batteries saved Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
