The only place I could park was next to a black L405

As I looked back at it mine seemed to be bigger in appearance so I thought I would take a few cheeky snaps and throw them up here.
As you can see the L322 is definitely bigger than the L405. Although I don't like the roundedness / evoqueness of the new models the interiors are to die for
compromise ??

Certainly looks bigger in the pics but after driving one on Friday at the landrover experience in dunkeld both on and off road the l405 is certainly wider never notice the difference in length. What a difference between 3.6 and the new 4.4, need to get a drive in a 4.4 l322 as these look much better value.
Must say very impressed with all the new technology, nice to throw someone else's 100k+ car about off road to see what they are capable of doing wouldn't be doing with my own if I could afford one. Gone

ahh that's chester isn't it?! I've often parked there: Grosvenor car park, or is it tescoes? I'm only in a nearby village so know that view well!

With response to ur post: yup worst of all worlds for L405: Shorter, Wider, Longer but with a smaller boot. A late TDV8 L322 for me please.

Yes from what I could see from being alongside it the L405 is fractionally longer and I would say thats only due to the rounded front bumper / saggy behind. I like the 2012 L322 look, really nice and still with presence

Yes and they are also stupidly spaced with them dam concrete columns, cant get the ff parked and manage to get out of it without damaging something, Ive noticed ff drivers either park them on the 1st level outside or all the way at the top

Nice to drive down the ramps though not having to brake as you hit the floor, plenty of front end clearance, whilst the idiots in racer machines behind you also try the same thing and crunch there motor on the floor ha ha ha ha ha

Does make you wonder if they never put them side-by-side. L405 could nearly be Korean - looks almost apologetic, but in a flashier way. The old one is a far more successful design.

The L322 is timeless, the L405 isn't. LR clearly got stuck in a rut thinking about weight saving, fuel efficiency and stylistic trinkets, and lost their way in the process. The aerodynamic wheelarches and smooth nose may gain 1-2 MPG, but they also compromise the bluff design language. Likewise saving weight with aluminium, which produces huge A,B, C and D pillars on the car, compromising the 'glass house' feel and 'command' driving position. So too the smaller C pillar window, which ruins the visual balance of said glass area. The lights, meanwhile, are adorned with fripperies, and the aforementioned flared wheelarches result in a track totally unsuited to British roads, and indeed serious off-roading.

Likewise the interior, they got too focussed on the idea of a minimalist design, but actually IMO didn't match this concept with the chunky use of materials with a high tactile bounty. Get in an L405 and prod the centre console 'wood'. It will move. Sounds like a small thing, but it just makes the design look whimsical and flimsy. It isn't hard to make a car like the Range Rover. We're all traditionalists at heart, otherwise we would look to rival brands more seriously. Keep the classic lines, which are modernist in the very essence of their slab-sided nature and so do not date. The interior should be a blend of fine materials and architectural influence. The engine should be powerful, but only as economical as the bounds of the design permit.

+ you forgot to mention that there is less space on the front seats in the L405 ....  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

Pepper street can kiss my they are overpriced and you don't even get a decently sized space for your money! Hideous building too.

Yes the L405 is wider (2220mm v 2190 so 3cm wider; with mirrors folded 2073mm versus 2010 so 6 cm wider, due to the new much chunkier mirrors). I park on a narrow driveway and it was noticeable at first, but soon got used to it. The 322 is not much taller (1840 v 1835mm at normal height setting) so I wonder if the 405 in the pic was lowered to access height? I have just gone from a 322 to a 405 (3.0TDV6) and great so far: I moved from a 2002 model to a 2013 though, so quite a leap in terms of features. And I am sure the 4.4 405 is lovely but the 3.0 seems to do all I want, I don’t need the power for thrills as I have another car for that. It's consuming fuel at half the rate of my old petrol 4.4V8, is faster, and is just a lovely place to be. Very happy. And if anyone really thinks the 322 is still much better, well mine is up for sale . Norman
