The Roadhawk is permanently wired in and starts recording each time the ignition is switched on and stores video on a 32gb sd card.
When the card is full it simply re-writes over.
The Kodak has an internal battery which gives about 2 hours recording in HD although the SD card in it at the moment has the potential to record for about 4 hours. It can be provided with a 5V supply from a USB outlet to run the full time required by the SD card. It really needs a larger SD card.
The Roadhhawk provides full time and date stamping on the video for evidential purposes, it also provides a record of your vehicle speed and gps position and Google mapping if the files are opened in the provided Roadhawk software.
Surprisingly in this instance the Roadhawk didn't full convey the seriousness of the situation as demonstrated by the Kodak.
Although on the video it appears the caravan struck my car in fact at just the right moment I pulled the steering left then corrected and by pure luck my car went left as the caravan came left and then went right as the caravan went right. If I hadn't pulled left the caravan would undoubtably hit my car.
No skill involved on my part, pure luck.
I recon the caravan missed my car by no more than a few mm's.
Needless to say I have gone over the front and side of my car with a fine tooth- comb and can't find the slightest mark indicating a contact.
The polish is still intact, just. Thumbs Up Laughing
The incident definitely shows the benefit of an on-board camera.
The police had no worries about the content of the two videos but did point out that without them they would be unlikely to persue the matter as it would be my word against the other driver, even in the event of actual damage.
Needless to say I thoroughly recommend the use of such cameras.
The other time it proved useful was when I recorded a car passing me and going thro a red light and promptly hitting a car on a roundabout who happened to have the right of way.
Well worth the money imo.

There's actually a noise - like a crashing sound, when he appears to hit you.

This one looks good but it doesn't look like you get an SD card with it just instant playback. However it's 5 MP and also records within the car as it has 2 cameras...

There is indeed a noise which I can't explain other than it possibly being air noise... it was extremely windy at the time.
As long as there was no damage I will have to leave it at that. Thumbs Up

ND4It, did you consider the interior mirror option, or are they simply of poor quality ?

such as this one for example:

I did look at some of the mirror ones but came to the conclusion the video was generally of poor quality as is the case with a lot of the cameras out there.
I was looking for cameras which produce video that you can actually read a car registration number on, it's surprising how many of them don't achieve that.
There are dozens of in-car cameras available but most produce dubious quality video, you get what you pay for I'm afraid.
Interestingly Roadhawk have just brought out an HD version of their camera at £270.

Shocked For heavens sake...what were you doing with that low speed on her majesties roads? If even a caravan passes by you must have been crawling over the tarmac. Very dangerous behaviour. Laughing

I've taken the plunge and ordered the hd erosion David.

Can't wait to try it out over the long weekend...

Did yours come with a power lead? Mine hasn't arrived yet but it didn't look like it was included. I also ordered the window sucker carrier as that's extra also. 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

Crazy Censored wit.

Towing with no mirrors is not good.........

His choice of caravan/car is on the verge of illegal weights wise, not in the advised bracket thats for sure.

He has no concept of where the back end of his outfit is!

If he had of been driving my outfit he would have taken you out and by some margin.....ffrr + 7.89m caravan. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

@Rich.
I presume you have gone for the Roadhawk HD, this wasn't available when I bought mine. Definitely looks the business.
The cable will come with the camera, it's plenty long enough to allow a discrete installation , ie no cable visible.
The camera is mounted via a self adhesive pad, the suction mount you refer to is an option that allows the camera to be moved between cars if required.
You now have to look at the wiring possibilities. Thumbs Up
