United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
Tow bar

Hi this is my first post so go easy on me, I've not long brought my first RR, An 06 TD6. I have found a genuine second hand tow bar that is still on a 2004 RR. Obviously I know the 2006 was a face-lift model but does anyone know if it will fit onto my 06 chassis please?

First of all welcome Smithy313.
I have had quick nosey at Microcat and it appears as long as both vehicles are not armoured or both are armoured then it should fit. Wink
These are great towing cars

Though I am sure someone wiser will pop in and correct me if need be.

They are fundamentally the same however there is a slight difference in the mounting brackets for the exhaust, cant rember when they changed it though. Have a look at pfjones website to see when the changeover date was.

Think it is about 2005. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Welcome Smithy313,

If your getting a genuine LR kit then make sure it comes with the ECU bit also. From recollection this senses when you plug in electric cables from tow items and lets the car know so that it turns off the rear parking sensors. I think it also makes changes to air suspension settings too.

Smithy, The flanges for mounting the exhaust support moved from the 2006 on. Your 2004 version will need some new ones welding onto the armature. I have a almost new (never been mounted) armature for a 2006 onwards and a new (with key) removable tow bar and neck if you are interested. Photos are in my gallery. Pm me if interested. Thumbs Up

Hi Smithy -
I'm acquiring the same at the moment for my '06 MY car.
I've just bought the correct year armature (that's the beam) off ebay - there's a couple of others available on there.
If you're getting the tow equipment from the '04 car at a reasonable price, I'd be tempted to take from it what you need and sell the armature until you find the "correct" one. That being said, if you're happy to modify the earlier one, go for it. I've a feeling the tow "brain" ecu is different between those model years, also.
Wherever you buy from you must take into account the postage on this - it's a little "prohibitive" - as I've discovered.
My plan before fitment is to get it shot blasted and powder coated . . . .

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

i bought my FF with the 'farmers' type 3 position hitch, which dragged on the ground when loading onto a trailer, (quite badly) it looks awful too. but when i got hold of the removable type i saw why it was still on there. because it was properly rusted in. it wagged a bit, when as tight as arseholes, so would have been 'strange-noisy' when in use, but no amount of tapping, or thumping would shift it. soi i borrowed a pair bottle jacks, and jacked against the tow 'bar' itself. off it came. and in went the removable type with the pin in in seconds. if you were to coat it in plastic i'm sure you would never get it off again! or even in enough to put in the pin! incidentally, i made up a 4 bike rack to go into the 2inch hole and it works a treat!

Thanks for all the replies, the price of the tow has gone up and if I've got to weld the exhaust brackets in a different place and get it re-powder coated, I might as well get a new one, have got one priced up and it's quite reasonable.

Quite reasonable doesn't sound right for a FFRR tow bar Laughing

Are you sure you have all the parts ?

it depends what you want to do with the bar? tow or tow and bolt on cycle carriers, or anything with a flange plate adaptor such as old style caravan stabilisers.

the best place to start is PF jones as they list the lot, but for ease:

the tow bar on the FF comes in two halves:

1 the reciever bar which bolts to the car
2 the tow bar bit which is either

Farmers hitch type or detachable (farmers can be removed as well but its a bit more of a faf)

cheers to Ajay(uk) for pics

(tow parts to the detachable)

the OEM is Westfalia.

the tow bar bits fit all years but the reciever bar/bracket is 2002-2005 and 2006> due to changed in the exhaust bracketry.

then there is electrics, most say to go for the LR dedicated electrics as they are plug and play, get them from LR (get a price of dan) and either go for single electrics for just a trailer, twin if you have an older caravan or 13pin for more modern vans. personally prefer 13 pin as it gives a good connection, and can be used with an adaptor for trailers etc. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
