Thats Odd I am sure that was the case as he made a point about it when demonstrating the 2011 4.4 I was driving. Perhaps my brain is frying but will check.... Confused

jsb, have you had a look at the back of the switches attached to the airbag?
Well, behind the telephone/voice/heated wheel set up switches is an unused plug socket

the arrow points to an unused 4-pin receptacle that may well be where the paddles plug in. I only have a pic of the paddles at the moment, but they seem to plug in somewhere in this area.

Wanna have a look and let us know?

taking the airbag off is as easy as

switch off car
open bonnet
open windows just in case
close doors
wait 10 minutes
disconnect neg battery terminal
wait 10 minutes (for any residual charge to dissipate)
remove airbag by pushing a 3mm allen key into the small hole on each side of the plastic surround

voila

(do this at your own risk - no responsibility taken - etc.)

Censored . Sorry to hear that. Do you suppose there are such differences in spec? Do you have the heated wheel, telephone and voice controls?

well I got the paddles (thanks Nick Thumbs Up ) but the receptacle is 4-pin male, and the plug at the end of the paddle loom is also 4-pin male......
methinks there may be a jumper cable required? too scared to plug it in....

any ideas?

I was hoping that on the 2010/11 it would be plug and play. not sure what you may need for the 2003 - we would need some help from BBSPY or Wiggs

You rang Whistle

2010 on, it should indeed be a plug and play retrofit situation and will work as long as its enabled in the CCF which is something you have been able to do with the MSV-2 for over a year now Wink

So you follow the connectivity, each paddle switch unit has 3 wires, Ground, illumination (dimmable via the switch module CPU) and the paddle switch signal which goes to ground whenever the paddle switch is held on.

The connection to the switch pack containing the CPU therefore has four connections, Ground and illumination and the switch inputs for left and right paddles.

These paddle switch inputs, along with inputs from every other switch on both steering wheel modules is translated by the CPU into CAN BUS data which is provided to all vehicle systems via the CAN BUS connection of the clock spring.

Although 05 on FFRR vehicles did have a CAN BUS, sadly the steering wheel controls were still using the old BMW IBUS of earlier L322's, which simply does not support Paddles.

It is however not entirely a lost cause, as we believe that we may be able to eventually provide a workable solution Thumbs Up 2003 4.4 HSE
