Centre console removal

I have a 2008 tdv8 and the steel gear surround has got quite marked. As a result I found a brand new gear surround which I hoped would be a straight forward fit. Looking at it, it appears to be screwed on from underneath meaning the centre console will have to come out to fit it. I've looked an can only find instructions for the earlier Brunel grey surround, which obviously doesn't come off the same.

Anyone got TIS for this model and could post me a pic, or at least point me at a starting area. I don't want to just start pulling stuff in case I break something critical! My Previous RR's!

Maybe joe. I'm on the ipad and such down loading is strictly forbidden by the apple gods...

Anyhow, I went ahead and had a crack at it. It wasn't that hard to be fair.

Remove the cubby liner (2 screws and some jiggling at the back with a plastic pry)

Remove the two screws under that.

Remove the side panels (piano back in my case) prise from the bottom out and up.

Undo the two screws this reveals

Remove the small oblong plastic panel under the clock (pops off)

Take out the two screws this reveals

Then pop it up from the cubby end, out of the pry clips and lift.

I didn't take the gear lever off, just manoeuvred it around it. Lift the panel whilst disconnecting all electrical connections. From memory these were

Two on cigar lighter. One on handbrake. One under buttons for terrain. One under gear indicator and the last under the M + - lights.

Six screws then hold the metal coloured bit down.

Fitted the new one, put it back together and .... Didn't work. Standard. The terrain response just faulted and wouldn't adjust. Took it apart again, checked connections and decided it needed coding to the car. Couldn't be arsed with that so swapped over internal electrics keeping all the new buttons and wheel.

Reassemble and hey presto! Works fine!

Mine was only cosmetic which is why i was able to swap the gubbins over. Looks great now with a shiny gear thingy!

Also, forgot to mention, the part was £45 on eBay. New genuine parts. My Previous RR's!

For info, the later workshop manual (as per link above) shows full instructions on dismantling the new "floor console", Section 501-12 in the index, @ page 2768 .
