United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Monte Carlo Blue
Uh oh :(

Just spent an age yesterday changing all four sets of brake pads, I noticed that my front O/S was an absolute pig to wind back in.
Well today the usual new brake squeal was there for an embarrassing 20 mins or so, I used another member on here's method of hard bedding in...60 down to 20 x 7 seamed to do the trick.

But here is where it all is going wrong, I got back into the car later on that day and noticed that the braking performance doesn't seem to be as good as it was with the old pads on, and every time I stop front right calliper is red hot, so obvious diagnosis would be to say the piston is sticking.. Does this mean the calliper is goosed or has anyone been able to self help their own callipers before? I really don't need the expense of a new one. Does anyone have a good source for refurbed callipers? as if I cant fix this I would be interested in trying to find a good refurbished one.

Any help is appreciated. Thumbs Up Bushy

I got a recon of ebay for £45. Look for BMW X5 calipers instead if range rover. At £45 its not worth the hassle. A seal kit is about £7 but you might need pistons and the ballache of doing the job.

Ah I see, typical Range Rover price tag attached to the same part I guess. TBH if i can get one for £45 I would happily swap it over rather then mess about stripping and cleaning/sanding and de rusting etc

cheers mate Thumbs Up Bushy

If you remove it from the disc and push the piston in & out a few times to see if it'll loosen up.
Just use the brake peddle to push it out but put the old pads in the calliper so you don't push the piston out of the housing. Wink

If that doesn't work, then see about replacing it.
One of my rear callipers was sticking but that moved without any problems so I ended up replacing it with a second hand one in the end. Rolling Eyes

Bingo!

You are not the shop looking to make a buck off the owner (replace!replace!), you are the owner! Work it in and out and get it going again. Works in the large majority of cases. Only look to replace if the rubber seal is torn or if the piston develops a leak - or if it really won't free up.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to know if it was fixable. I don't think the piston is leaking and I'm fairly sure the rubber boot is ok. So I'll give it a go next week and post the results. Bushy
